Lets face it ,you ain't ready to take on a star driver like me.This is your fault , you say nice things about me and I just get bigheaded!! STOP IT IMMEDIATELY.

HEY ALL YOU SPEED FREAKS OUT THERE...

you gotta give this a go!!!!!

Yesterday I was with Jay & Martin from id-club.com doing some sprint testing in a Caterham 7... WOW!!!

Car control or what!

The idea is that a tight course is laid out with cones, barely enough to get the car through at times, and you have to navigate the course without the brakes, just using the throttle control and as little steering as possible. Doesn't sound that difficult... well the idea is that the course is tto tight to just steer around, you have to SLIDE around it. Yep, no braking just throttle.

Blimey... the cones were going everywhere at the start. Jay, of course, demo'd how it should be done.. git!

I thought 'only 3 x 15 minutes sessions?..not enough to get this'.. wrong, very wrong.. I was completely Caterham'd after that.

By the end of it, I was doing the course ONE-HANDED (as Jay was holding my other arm..Aaahh!), the car was sliding at every corner (planting it gently to get the back out, lifting off to transfer the swing back the other way and blipping it to keep the slide going on the long hairpin. MAGIC!

Then the 'island'. Just drive around a very small ring of cones, get the back out, straighten the wheels completely, and use the throttle to just spin around them!!. Bloody marvellous.

I don't think I'll try it with the Tuscan but it's certailny given me a new insight into throttle control and the HUGE difference it can make to the balance and control of the car.

If you fancy giving it a go just contact the guys at cat7@id-club.com, or visit their web site at www.id-club.com

See ya.

Smile-filled me!!

Wayne - alright mate.

Glad testing is going well. I keep meaning to pop into see Steve etc. at Thames Valley as I live about 400 yards down the road from them!

My season started well too managing to qualify 3rd and take the lead in the first outing of the season (finished 4th after I ran wide at Redgate at Donny though - doh!, see report for Locosts on Pistonheads). Sevens are indeed a right laugh.

Hope to see you at the weekend as I'll be down with Ted.

Cheers
