Hi Rich,

That makes sense now thank you...

Could do with those bars....still might be able to chop and weld my frame....

Mins has another set of Brackets ....above those for the column....perhaps these are for the "brace" bar that You are talking about Perry?

How long has your car been on the road?

Looks cool mate well done
Steve,
I ended up dodging (unsuccessfully) the rain over the Christmas period, driving to my friendly garage to get an MOT on it. The DVLA were as good as gold and assigned it an age related plate in the middle of January. Since then, it hasn't stopped raining. I've still got plenty of jobs to do on the car, but it's legal and driveable.
Yours is looking fantastic..... keep up the good work!

Steve

Are you going to glue these carpets in place ?

Reason I ask is even when you wash thes cars carefully, well mine at least, water gets in through places that you wouldn't immediately think of...like the pedal box cover for instance which obviously isn't sealed up for maintenance.

Perry if the clocks anything like the one's in my chimaera (early one's) the hands wave at you as you drive it!

Hopefully they will work OK when I am sat in traffic....anyway just thinking...all this suggests that I am going to finish it lol!

Well done mate, great that the DVLA played ball, and dropping an age related plate on it is brilliant, as for rain...I imagine you got drenched...they are quite open to the elements aren't they?

Yes this weather is rubbish, been out in the Cerbera a few times when the sun breaks through...you just forget how rapid these cars are..one of my neighbors Karl from across the road (who trailer-ed my chassis to the NEC and has a Malek race cara) came along for a blat ...certainly put a smile on his face...let him drive it a short(ish) distance...whats nice is that he is joining the club and will be getting a TVR in the future...his dad used to have a Grantura....now that is one to aspire to!

Anyway Rich must be nice to be in a position to actually drive the car, thanks for sending me images of work on your motor, I decided to just go for one cage hoop in the end...not got the rear impact tank protection bar sorted yet...

Thanks for posting

Hi Grant,

Thats the intention...the set I took out had sound deadening behind the carpet I will loose this as it will retain water and smell after a period of time.
Thinking of relatively thin pile...the footwells and rear deck areas will be removable.
I will seal the bulkhead and floor, the glass windscreen is already sealed...

I am removing all of the tonneu cover fixings, as at this stage will be going for a removable roof with a bulge for the drivers hoop and perspex glass for the back screen, also intend to create some way of closing off the the are above the door and roof...still early days there!

I do not intend to cut a boot into the back end (at this stage) this will prevent water ingress and add security as the only access to the boot will be via the parcel shelf area, there will be a secured panel in front of this...again dependent on how much space I am left after the rear cage goes in...plus save time by fabricating a channel and drainage for water , could work out to be a pain if I went that way

I am under no illusions this will be a challenge...I think you also told me that you get cold hands as a result of how the wind flows over and around the windscreen..oh joy!

Steve,
Let me know when you've solved the roof issue as I haven't worked out an answer yet. I bought a "Reidy hardtop" (and very good it is, Mr Reid), but I (a) haven't modified it to fit around my passenger rollover hoop yet (and I'm crap at fibreglassing) and (b) I haven't worked out how to make it "Triumph Stag stylee" removeable. I obviously don't want it to be a permanent fixture (us Tuscan men have hairs on our chest, not blouses!!!), but making it a clip-on / unclip-off affair looks difficult. Then there's the rain-sealing issue. If anyone's got and answer and some photos, I'm sure Steve and I would be grateful.

I will take some detailed photos of the fixings on mine, which comes off very easily and try to post.

I've had mine for seven years now. Got three types of roofs and not got one to keep out water I'd love to be wearing my blouse. Unless you are seven stone and 5 foot tall & go to yogo four times a week, I'd also like to know how you are going to get in the car with a roof on.

Matt,
Thanks very much for the photos, it'll save Steve and I countless hours trying to reinvent the wheel, when we're trying to make ours fit our cars. As your car (and it's an absolute stunner) was rebuilt by JR himself (if I'm not mistaken), whatever he's done to make the roof fit, will be the way to go.

Much appreciated (and good luck with this years racing)..... Rich

Matt those are just the over centre catch's Reidy always puts on his roofs, not going to stop the niagra falls coming in round the sides.

Perry,
That's easy..... I'll get my 'butler' and 'chamber-maid' to fit the roof once I'm in the car, then follow me around in the Rolls so they can remove it when I want to get out again. grumpy
If only the above was true..... Well I see you point, so if anyone knows an answer that doesn't involve yoga, I'll be interested.banghead

I have discovered that you have to be somewhat...er, supple to get in and out with the roof on or off!

So better get along to the local yoga class!

Rich, it was rebuilt by JR and is really well finished....but apparently doesn't stop water coming in through the sides!biggrin

Will try and get pics up next weekend.

My car design may help you...
I have a version of the John Reid roof, though the previous owners cut off the roll over hoop, and I've mounted the seat sufficiently low that this is ok from a rules perspective. My roof has several metal tabs glassed into the leading edge. These fit into corresponding slots in the top of the windscreen, and have a rubber/foam seal along the same edge to dissuade water from entering.

To secure the roof down, there are then several 'dzeus' fasteners around the base edge of the roof, locking into the rear clam with another weatherproof strip. The only gap remaining is therefore the windows, which could be sealed with a window and rubber or water channel. Simple, but the roof is very sturdy when fitted, and has waterproof seals to prevent water ingress. Seems a simple solution to me...

Nick's hard top looks like one of the earlier type.
We used one of these for the purple car but had to modify it as it wouldn't fit around the radius'ed area of the roll cage corners - it ws like trying to put on a jumper that was too small around the shoulders hehe.
We had to cut and widen that area and glass in new material , we also added the raised section to cover the drivers side roll hoop - prior to this some cars had the roof slotted to allow the hoop to poke through and one one car, the sides of the roof had to be slotted to allow the radius'ed roll cage tubes to fit as well.
JR used this modified roof to take a mould and this is the type fitted to the Gulf car (and my green one) etc.
Over centre clips at the front and DZUZ type fasteners are best if you need to regularly remove the roof.

Thanks everyone for the photos and advice. I need to sort out a tonneau cover for the summer, so Perry's photos will help here and then start modifying the roof so it fits around the second rollover hoop I've got on my car. I only hope I don't hit a problem with the side of the rollcage fouling the roof, otherwise it'll have more lumps and bumps on it than someone with carbuncles.

Thanks for everyone's help..... Rich

Echo what you say here Rich....thanks to everyone for posting....appreciated

We spent yesterday afternoon getting the roll cage to fit....ended up cutting some floor away....but we got it to fit!
The front section's "feet" need pushing out by about 1/2 ins so the cage comes back out at 14:00 we will jack it apart that should make the body/chassis/cage all line up ....we are then off to see Tim Hood and Terry to take clutches and think about bolting the engine to the box....then borrow an engine hoist.....still need to see how we can mod sump....
