Hope everyone is well after Snett!! Ours is going to Petes place tonight to assess full extent of damage!

Amazing start!
The only thing you could have done to avoid the barrier was to come off the brakes in the final stages as you were going backwards. The trouble is you need your front wheels pointing in the right direction and you don't have time to think whether they are. But once you know you are going to hit if you don't do something, its worth forcing yourself to come off the brakes. If you're lucky you'll get away with it. If you're not then you have broadly the same accident - its worth a gamble. Don't ask how I know this!!

Dave, your start reminds me of some of the videos I've seen of Marc Hockin in my Griff 10years ago when he would qualify in 3rd or 4th typically then take the lead into the first bend, only to lose it on the first long straight to Tuscans. It seems that Griffs have always been able to get the power down better than Tuscans off the start line, aided in your case by the shorter final drive ratio.

the shorter wheelbase of the chim and griff seems to give them great traction off the line, Iain used to get great starts with his chim too.
The tuscans either get a great launch or a terrible one, the rover cars having an advantage over the ajp off the line, but ajp top end power claws it back on the straights.
the differences in chassis as well as engines makes for an interesting mix on track.

Thanks guys!! I didnt think it one of my best starts either, more wheel spin initially than usual lol... Everything just fell into place! Got tank out tonight, see if it can be repaired tomorrow.... Exhaust system needs renewing but home made so easy enough! Its actually tore both engine mount rubbers!! Makes you realise the forces involved (brand new tvr items for Rockingham!!). Motor will be coming out this week to check it over!
Think Ive found a rear end thats reasonable money, speaking to the chap tomorrow and hopefully roadtrip very soon!!

Was really gutted when I heard about the shunt, I think we were robbed of a good tussle. Hopefully you'll be sorted soon and back out for anglesey. The news on mine is the gearbox is hopefully a simple fix. The roll pin worked loose and fell out, explains the bad (and missed) shifts recently and ultimately no gears at all. Engine is looking like just a gasket failure on 2 cylinder. It went just shy of the limiter at 7600 and caused my spin too. New gasket and a cooling mod should fix the problem. If all goes well we should be at Anglesey.
Well back from road trip! Many thanks to AussieJohn on here, sorted us out with a new (slightly damaged but easily fixed) rear end and a new fuel tank! Ours is worse than I thought!
Hopefully have the car looking whole again by early next week!! Motor coming out tomorrow night (its tore the engine mounts!!) So check that and box. Hoping to have all the bits back and going back together end of next week!! Then just make a new exhaust system up, renew nuts/bolts in rear suspension (just in case!!!), source some lights and a full spanner check!! Bar nothing major going wrong we should be out at Anglesey!!

That's great news Dave and brilliant that you found a back end and tank so quickly.
I've decided to start from scratch with the AJP after losing so much oil and power at Snett. By race time, I struggled to hit a shift light in 4th or 5th going down the straights! I reckon I must have been 100 bhp or so down. Apologies for the oil vapour I was spraying around. I know it made for some, let's say "challenging" car control for many of you. Anyway, it'll be rebuilt over the next 2 weeks, properly this time, and certainly not by the same guy who did it last time
