well i'm shocked it is 2004 Richard told me just one other bloke was quicker than him with a 1:06 so must be better than 1:06.5 then. Those times are what the average full ground effect radical cars are doing nowadays, hats off. Lets hope Richard is out in DTEC this year.
Maybe you should take the wings off and work on the reflexes Perry N.
Hi Neal
Happy new year man. It's not really sinking in how quick those boys of old were. I know how hard I have to drive to get to 1:09 it's daunting to think of how much faster I have to go all round the lap to knock off 2.5 seconds. I really can't see me getting there at present. Low 1:08 I can visualise that but another 2 seconds well that's another thing. I was trying to think what they would be doing in my car as it is today with modern tyres, very trick three way dampers, bigger more efficient brakes a sequential gear box and an extra 50BHP. My head = Spinning top

I am further back down the road in exactly the same place…1.46 at croft and then seeing faster MG Midgets on the same circuit in my proposed championship..…There is always someone to race… hopefully

Fair enough guys....im getting old and my memory is not to be trusted.
Tom defo has the B record...he beat me...
As an aside Reedy told me that Gugs had the lap record for chicane layout which must have been 2002/3, and Lee Caroline was well quick at Combe in the dying stages of the Real TVR Challenge days?

Richard Hay did a 1.06.5 in 2004. I suspect that isn't the record for Tuscans at Combe post chicanes.
Upon checking the files:2003 LC q 107.6 r 108.0
2002 SG q 106.9 r 107.1
2001 SG q 106.8 r 107.6
2000 MC q 106.8 r 106.8
1999 MJ q 106.7 r MC 106.5
I recall Rod Barrett telling me that after the chicanes were introduced the best trap speed into Camp went down from 154 to 151, making the speed down to Quarry then quickest part on the circuit for Tuscans.
If I was lucky enough to be in your position Perry, with two Tuscans, and able to afford to go racing in the first place, I would be putting a 2nd seat and helmet intercom in the Rover one, and trying to get some coaching from the likes of Mike Caine or Jordan etc.
My files tell me that Jay Shepherd Phil Keen had fastest lap in some of those races, even if they didn't have pole
Anyway, the moral of the story is that it is possible to pedal a bog standard AJP Tuscan with 9" wheels, no aero and a manual box round Combe very quickly indeed. Although you do need the softer compound tyres used back in the day.
