I am being part sponsored this year by a tyre supplier who will be getting me the new R888R from Toyo for the Future Classic's in my Rover .

press release from Toyo Quote

World Premiere for Proxes R888R

November 27, 2014

Toyo Tire Europe GmbH, President Tatsuo Mitsuhata, announces that the new Proxes R888R track tyre has its’ World debut at the Essen Motorshow which opens on Friday.

The tyre, available during 2015, succeeds the phenomenally successful Proxes R888, a proven race winner. Used to win many championships, most recently the 2014 Toyota Sprint Series in the UK, Proxes R888 sets a high benchmark to follow.

Produced in 32 sizes initially, the new Proxes R888R takes track steering and grip to another level. With a fast warm up time, increased dry grip and sustained performance over multiple laps and heat cycles, the Proxes R888R is the ultimate track tire.

A rayon ‘super-high’ turn up ply on some sizes, combined with steel side plies, give the new Proxes R888R precise steering response and feedback to the driver allowing them full control of their race car to optimize its performance.

These are now in the 2015 blue book list 1B but note all tyres now in list 1B are due to be reconsidered and possibly be removed December 2015 and either removed completely or moved to a new list 1C for 2016.
If you are buying this year be prepared that Toyo R888,s and the new R888R,s may not be legal for racing from 2016.

What are you actually saying Perry? Are you just promoting Toyo's latest offering, or offering to help source these for other drivers? If the latter, I am so after a set for some CSCC New Millennium rounds.

I,m simply saying that Toyo have released a new tyre that might not be in list 1B in 2016 but moved to list 1C if MSA decide to make a list 1C, whats not to get !!!

I would have to ask Mike if he wants to get any for other people . He probably would. If you are doing Millennium races you will need to think about what you are going to use for wets ?For your info most people in Future Classic's scrub in a new set of tyres then keep them to one side to use in the wet, I,m sure that's what you will be doing any way, as you will have already been told that worn tyres you have used in the dry will be not a lot of use for the wet. You are entering a 40 minute race not a sprint so temps in the tyres will be consistently hot for a longer duration losing tyre performance as you go.

Hi Andy

As I understand it, it is a safety issue with MSA regards the wet weather performance of all list 1B tyres hence the astrix against all 2015 1B tyres for this year while MSA decide what to do. It is not clear as far as to what MSA will do and what tyres will end up in 1B for 2016.Toyo are releasing their new R888R at the auto sport show in UK. Just a coincidence I think it coincides with the MSA thinking. Good or bad for Toyo we shall see. I have been told that I can expect delivery for June 2015.As far as CSCC are concerned they will take a view when MSA decide what they are doing but either way they will be considerate to cars that have good rubber on and will faze changes in over 2016/17 . As I will not be at auto sport show again this year, you will be able to find out a lot more than I and report back, as I am due to be here instead as usualbiggrin ....................

Any idea what compounds will they do?
I will probably buy a set and want soft or med/soft but not expecting those compounds in these sizes.

As I understand it its a safety issue that comes from the EU, wrt wet weather performance of List 1b tyres when used on the road, and the MSA has to comply. It's not an MSA initiative per se. It's likely that most current List 1b tyres will no longer be considered road legal by the end of 2015.

The MSA have yet to define any new tyre rules but a Scrutineer told me recently that he expected the road wet weather performance requirement of List 1b tyres to be increased markedly and therefore that the current List 1b tyres would probably be moved to a new List 1c, which would not be considered to be road legal in 2016.

Whether anyone continues to manufacture "List 1c" tyres that are only useable on race tracks and not on the road, is another matter.
