Is this been enforced mandatory this year, taken from DTEC regulations................
The towing eyes must be made of at least 6mm diameter steel wire rope with a 6x19 wire core, each which must
have a breaking-strain of at least 2 tons. Each towing eye must allow the passage of a cylinder with a diameter of
60 mm, situated 25mm forward of the adjacent bodywork - 100 mm above and below this hole must retain
clearance to enable the recovery crews to attach straps and shackles.
The towing eye must be fixed to a structural part of the chassis with a minimum of M12 fixings, the inner part
must be flexible in order for the towing eye to be retracted inside the bodywork profile. A “pull-cord” must be
attached to the towing eye to enable the marshals to access the wire loop. The end attached to the chassis may be
either ‘thimble’ or ‘open-loop’ style.
Each complete towing eye must be certified as meeting this load requirement.
Webbing towing eyes are not permitted.
This regulation is highly recommended for 2016, but will be compulsory from January 2017.
The intention is to allow an angled pull away in the event in the event of a crumpled or obscured vehicle corner
e.g. +/- 45 degrees from straight ahead.
Examples of steel wire towing eyes that can be bolted to the chassis:

Also discussed on UK club motorsport forum , looks like it's strongly recommend not mandatory for 2017 , best check blue book , will be a pita for my car , can't see any way to pull car at 45 degree angle without wrecking front clam , would be better to attach to chassis behind wheel or just drag by the wheel as they did with Jasons car at Oulton , not ideal but better than seeing your bodtwork ripped off by the steel rope .
When we eventually see a set of 2017 regs, i suspect this will have gone back to advisble for 2017.
that bit in the 2016 regs was a straight cut and paste that they put in all the 2016 regs as thats also what went in the blue book.
As everyone points out, its almost impossible to make it work on anything other than a tin top.
the problem they had with webbing staps wasnt so much them not bing up to it when new , it was them dragging on the floor for year and being frayed then snapping
unless anyone has seen any 2017 regs and theyve not been properly updated..

Just spoken to JR and 2017 regs are just waiting for the msa to send them back after not reading them again lol...
as soon as he has them he will send me a copy and I'll stick it on the website and let everyone know
same with the regs as soon as they are back i will post them.
JR doesnt seem to think there will be an issue with having to change tow eyes...
