Got a lot done the weekend, but found a few things I need to do.
Like the doors top frames are shot.
But the car is now striped, and all the bolts are other bits holding the body to the chassis are removed. so just need to lift the body.

See pics.

Well the body is now off,

Thanks to a PH post, and have 6 people I did not know bofore turning up to help take the body off.

Plus 4 others I did know.

Made the job so easy.

Does not look at as hard as I thought to get the engine in.

Have to make some changes to the gearbox mounts, and put new engine mounts in.

but there is enough space for every thing, as far as I can work out.

I'm going to mount the engine and gearbox about an inch further back, and mount the gearbox in line with the main chassis tubes. instead of in front.
and going to have a bolt in mounting brace, to make it easier to remove.

plus have a bolt in lower chassis brace, under the gearbox.

Well the Idea, is to put every thing in place then fill with expanding foam.
Wait it to set.
make mould from foam, then make brackets fit the mould.

I have a friend who has a bolt in SD1 Gearbox bracket, so going to see if I can use that.

Well got the engine in the 280 (well Graham's spare 350 engine as mine is still in the shop) and the engine brackets tacked into place, need to do the gearbox mounts, and then take it all out and weld it fully.

Had to shorten the SD1 engine mounts to make it fit. will take pic's of the engine to chassis mounts once the engine is out again.

See pic's

Got my block back with tophats,

But have now been told all the head threads are U/S.

So asked why they did not tell me this before charging me £900. they said I never asked them to check them. FFS well put new liners in a naff block. They wanted another £250 to fix them, so told them where to stick them.

Wish I bought a new Cosworth block now.

Surely they checked the engine over to find if as fit for purpose? I would of thought running a tap down each thread would of been a basic requirement of that. Also how do you clamp the block to machine out the old liners, and what about blocking off the water channels to pressure check it?

Well they are repairable but was not going to pay they £235 fit helicoils, esp after them not checking them in the 1st place.

Going to get Time-Serts and fit them.

Thanks for the offer Dave.

That's what I thought, I asked why, and they said I never asked them to check the Threads FFS.

sounds more like they buggered the threads, whilst inserting the liners... my 4ltr block has a few helicoiled head threads with no problems though...

You may be better off buying an oversize head stud kit from arp,you will have to slightly drill out the heads, that will prevent any furher problems, as used on the old tuscan RV8.
