On the 1997 TVR Tuscan video and also on one of the Havoc videos you will see JCW punt Phil Hindley and others. In fact on any TVR Tuscan video you will see this. David Mason is a true talent and will win soon. He is better than JCW and Rod is right to say there is not enough room for two of them.

Where can you get these old tuscan videos from?

Well James, you must really rate this young driver to come out with " he's better then JCW " I'll take the trouble to check his lap times over say 10 or 12 laps when we are at Knockhill this weekend, and if it's wet it will make it even more interesting. The reason behind this is to establish if he can do 10 or 12 laps without a variation of more then 2 tenths per lap and if it's wet can he maintain an overall time only 5% slower then dry pace. oh,I nearly forgot, when we go to Spa lets see if he can take Eau Rouge flat @152.4 mph(JCW 1999) or for that matter 148.8 (BVR 1999) AND STAY ON THE TRACK. With the last example being a touch fool-hardy!!and not recommended to anyone with even an ounce of common sence, If this young man can get anywhere near to the levels of the first two examples then that alone would make him a top class act. If he can better those levels of excellence, then and only then will I accept that he could be as good as JCW.

Rod, I believe when he has had 2 seasons in Tuscans he could takr Eau Rouge flat at 150mph. Like Jay he comes from ovals. After watching Donnington I though Jay drove well.

Absolutely right Bert, I believe David will win this year and he is in the right team to give him a good car. When the Tuscans reach Spa David will be one of the fastest through the time traps.

Rod, I watched the Havoc tape again last night. Have you seen it? If not you borrow mine. Some good examples of how to push people off (mainly by someone we both know!)

To the person who started this thread. I think you do not know David Mason and you will soon see how wrong you were.

Rod,

When JCW started in the Tuscans, did he qualify on the second row after only 3 races??? The lad has a talent that will shine once he has had some more seat time.

Well Done Bert and all the boys at CDL for what must have been a great weekend for the team. Guges makes it all seem far to easy!

David had a superb second race at Knockhill, getting to 8th from the back of the grid without a scuff on the fibre glass!!!

The Tuscans still reign in the world of motorsport and with the addition of drivers like David, Lee Caroline and Jay long let it live!!

Lets just get this right, the only comment I have taken issue with was that made by James, that in his opinion DM was a better driver then JCW. Time may prove that this is indeed the case, or it may not, but right now I belive that to make this comparison is incorrect and won't help DM. He is quite capable of proving that he is a top class driver in his own right, so lets allow him the opportunity. If one looks at say the top 8 to 10 drivers in Tuscans any one of them are capable of winning a race but there's only one driver at the moment who has the combination of talent, commitment, style, luck, and professionalism and he's won 5 out of 6 races. The only other driver to win a race so far and only by a short head was Jay Shepherd and he knew that if he had made even the slightest error , Gugs would now have 6 out of 6. In short it's very hard for any of the top drivers when they are up against this level of excellence, but then that's what it's all about!!!

Rod, I recon it will take DM two seasons for DM to be a regular winner. Bert T recons sooner. I stated some where earlier that Jay would was one of the favorites to win the title this year. We still have a long way to go. I was told by various experienced drivers it took at least 2 years to learn Tuscans. I stand by original statement that DM is a greater talent than JCW at the same age.

James I do agree with you for the 1st time, that it takes 2 years for new drivers and it will be very hard for David to beat is own team mates with Steve and Darren let alone 3or4 other Drivers as Rod said in the challenge, and I do belive David has a bright future or we wouldnt of signed him on a 2 year deal for Tuscans, and it will take this year for him to learn the cars, but as in 2000 with Greg Caton we beat Jordan and Caine in only is 6th TVR race and David is learning all the time as did Greg so good luck David.

Thanks Bert, I may be right in saying that Greg Caton was the only driver to win outright in his first year in the AJP8 era.

I think when JCW started on the 2nd row in his 1st year, that was a qualification race (I.E. the top six qualifiers drop out) The car we gave him was no way near as good as the Blower prepared car that Rod gave him. Pete who engineered that car now works for Bert T; so I believe DM will win soon.

JCW's first car is now a road car owned by a Pistonheads reader.

If anyone tells you that they take eau rouge 'flat' at 150+ mph then they are a liar....or even 148.

Eau Rouge is approached in fifth gear, and then a dab on the brakes and into fourth, sqeezing on the power and running over the exit kerbs on the left and trying not to spin off to the right at the top, and then eventually, after what seems a lifetime's wait, snick into fifth whilst battling against gravity (going uphill) and wind resistance. Top speed at the very end of the straight might just reach 160, 161 mph, but that's it. And hope that some bugger hasn't towed by you in the meantime.

JCW and then BVR disconnected their brake lights that year......so they then were flat at eau rouge....and they have never won there if my feeble memory serves me correct.

Tuscans are racing again there shortly. The truth will out!
