Another F1 first timer here.

I have tickets for the Friday and Saturday only (including parking on Sat). Should arrive mid morning on Friday but was wondering what time I need to be there on Saturday to avoid the parking queues?

Do any of you guys know if any of the campsites/pubs etc will have screens/t.v's to watch the race on if I fail to get a ticket? Remember there was a television at the Whittlebury golf club so don't know whether that'll be worth a shot.

Any help would be much appreciated smile

I'm sure Hamilton fields campsite show the race on a big screen in there gazebo cos they were showing repeats of the qualifying on the Saturday night.

Hi all, I'm new here but stumbled across this topic on google while looking for info about Silverstone.

To cut a long story short my auntie & her husband were attending this Grand Prix but are now unable to go. They have already sold the event tickets but have been unable to cancel or change the date of their hotel accomodation! She has kindly donated the hotel stay to me and my grandfather but of course we have no tickets.

As the hotel is Whittlebury Hall it would be rude to let the booking go to waste so we intend to head down and at least soak up some atmosphere but what I would like to ask is whether there is anywhere to go around the circuit without tickets. Obviously I don't expect to be waltzing up to trackside but can we expect to get a view of the track at all or is there a large perimeter?

Cheers,

Mik
This one is absolutely made for you!

Otherwise, buy a Saturday General Admin for £76.60 (https://tickets.silverstone.co.uk/gateway.aspx?E=N&QL=S309|P32009|BGA1|RGP1|DF|VTIK|GEventSeatBlockPrices.aspx) as it's the main day as far as I'm concerned. I've been going for eight years and often wonder why I'm still there for the race on Sunday. Qualifying and the crack are what I go for.

Anyone know if there any time frames on arrival at Whittlebury? I was planning to go down tomorrow evening then it dawned on me that I should probably check first as I won't be there until 7 or 8. I've tried to call the campsite but I can't get through to anyone. All the camping telephone numbers just ring out.

Update: I managed to get through to them in the end. In case anyone else is interested, you can check in at Whittlebury 24 hours a day.

A few questions from a slightly different angle. I have been given some 'Paddock Club Hospitality Tickets' as a guest with one of the top 3 teams at the moment.
I understand that they give full garage access during the race / grid walk / paddock access etc.

But does anyone know what tickets gain access to the Balcony overlooking the start / finish line?
(On the GT1 weekend I couldn't get up there as I was only on a media pass)

Will these tickets also get access to the Grandstand at the new Village corner? Or as its F1 will they only for tickets specifically for that Grandstand?

Many thanks
If it is where I think you are thinking about BRDC passes only and you have two Hopes. Sorry to say Bob is dead.

On the new Wing complex there is a balcony that runs half the length of the building that is directly above the pit lane.

However since asking the question I've spoken to the where the tickets are coming from and was told that I'll have access the to the teams reserved area on the balcony directly above their garage.

So it seems as if the balcony (on F1 day at least) is divided into hospitality areas for each teams guests... Now you mention BDRC passes I think that is was I've got.

Hiya,
Couple of quick questions, they might be a bit silly, but the last time I was there I was 12 and definitely not interested in the practicalities, so I can't remember what the deal was, anyway, I've got a 3 day general admission ticket, and was just wondering about the food/drink/alcohol situation? I've read earlier that it's fine etc. taking your own, but it's not very clear whether that's just for camping people. I'm not camping and was just wondering if it's fine to rock up at the gate with a picnic and a couple of beers?
Also, I'm staying in Milton Keynes and travelling to the circuit every day, so far the best options for getting there seem to be a train to Northampton on the Friday and Saturday and then a bus from Northampton to Silverstone. Is this the best option or am I missing a trick? Any advice would be great.
Cheers, Laura.

Interesting. I've only been once since the wing opened for FIA GT1's and had a Media Pass (free coffee and biscuit woohoosmile ) it didn't try to get onto the balcony as was working in the pits but was surprised to see they weren't letting you out there with a Media Pass.

The BRDC suggestion was because I believe that there is a new Club House part to the Wing and suspected that the balcony had been reserved for them. Makes sense for it to be divided and used for hospitality this weekend though.

BRDC guest passes are only obtainable from/via Members of the club and aren't something you can buy so I'm not sure that you will have those. That said if you have F1 Paddock access passes they are as good/next best thing. Bit of a swings and roundabouts as to where they will let you go.

Whatever I am sure that you will enjoy it immensely!

What do you reckon my chances are of blagging my way into the pits/vip areas are. I'm working on my Eddy Murphy blag, shame they don't have a swimming pool there. I'd get to meet Heff if they did.

Somewhere between nil and zero i suspect.

I didn't go last year as was at Spa and Massmickalin (sp) that weekend but before then and for the 4-5 years before only certain passes even let you accross the bridge into the infield. With the access to the Wing being the way it is there is not chance of getting within 100m of the F1 paddock.

As for VIP areas who knows, depends on where you try to blag and how good you are.

Given the number of times I have seen people who I know have access to all the right passes being turned away from places I'd say there is very little chance.

To put it another way I will have access to BRDC Guest Pass and effectively an AAZ (save F1 paddock) pass and there will a lot of places I will not be able to get to even if I wasn't working!

Went to the F1 last a few years back, if you want to know what is going on, take ear defenders as well as the headphones as you wont be able to hear whats going on otherwise. Personally, I am not a fan of watching the F1 at the track, although it is something that is well worth experiencing.

Bit weird. Each to their own though! One thing I love about F1 (and motorsport in general) is how fans of different drivers/teams can generally sit together in the same grandstand or on the same corner. Not like football where fans have to be separated!

This thread has made me even more excited to go now biggrin
Quite right! It sounds snobby, but generally the F1 fans are more intelligent and well behaved than football fan apes who have to be separated like squabbling 5 year olds and aren't allowed to drink. The most partisan are the Italians followed by the Spaniards. Fernando could blink and they'd cheer.

Last year was blazing sun all weekend, looks like this year could be different but i'm sure you'll have a wicked time. If you have a roving grandstand ticket, becketts offers a great view of the whole Chapel, Becketts, Maggotts complex.

In a similar vein to some of the above, I'm a motorsport virgin. I found out in the last hour that I've got two general admission tickets and a parking pass for Sunday.

Planning on taking my little lad, (5 years old), so could use a bit of information about how to get the best out of the day.

Read all the ear defenders, food and stuff, and will be following lots of that advice.

What time should we get there to avoid spending half the day in traffic? Is the parking likely to be a long way from the circuit?

Once there, what exactly does general admission mean? Where can/can't you go? Will there be things to go and see if the wee mans concentration wanders?

Hoping this will be a cracking dad/son experience, don't want to stuff it up too badly, so any other useful tips would be appreciated.

To answer a couple of questions:
To get to Whittlebury from M1 south it really is quickest to follow the signed route. There are alternatives but for once the signed route is the quickest and most logical.
Dadford Road is closed at the Stowe end over the weekend to allow it to be one way into the car parks and to protect pedestrians coming out of the campsites. Therefore if you try to approach the car parks via Dadford you will be stranded.

Hope this helps
Please tell me this is not true... I've been going to silverstone for many years (never been to a GP though) and I've always been able to get in through here, even though signs would direct me away from it (tactics tried by Renault World Series organisers).

I'm going on saturday, courtesy of Santander wink
