RE: 800bhp Celica Is Fastest Car At Goodwood
Discussion
Yes it does look a bit st, and yes it's not a classic car but I think These time attack esque cars deserve a little more respect than many give them. With a flat floor, diffusers, splitter and the dive planes it has proper aero ( it's s simple concept) massive power ( 700 from 2l is not unheard of) they are impressive bits of kit. The sierra sierra Industries evo is astonishing, as is the gobstopper and many other hill climb cars.

Fact is on the day when the time really counted he was 2nd fastest - by c0.5 seconds. Not much but thankfully a much more important car won (good effort from him but I'd much rather see a wonderful classic car really delivering instead of a fast & furious stylee).
With respect, that's a bit elitist/snobby of you, don't you think?Obviously you're entitled to your opinion.

This is a non story.
I saw this go up the hill on the Saturday.
The thing was he was the only driver competing. I don't think he had sussed out that the FOS isn't a 'serious' hill climb.
Everyone else was showing off the cars to the crowds and generally having a good time.
Do we honestly think that a Celica would best the F1 cars? Come on....

700bhp @5700rpm would require a BMEP of 54.9 bar (for a 2.0 engine) and a BSAC of approx 2.3kg/kwhr, either figure is bit like saying, "yeah mate, my 1.3l corsa can go 200 mph".......
are you sure it's not 7500rpm??? (even that would be going some, but just possible)
Max, are you saying that 700bhp at 7.5k rpm on a 2.0ltr is hard to achieve? I know your a very samrt bloke so im not going to jump in feet firsts and ask why, but why? lol700bhp @5700rpm would require a BMEP of 54.9 bar (for a 2.0 engine) and a BSAC of approx 2.3kg/kwhr, either figure is bit like saying, "yeah mate, my 1.3l corsa can go 200 mph".......

Adrian in the other Celica was certainly competing. As were a number of other people in some very expensive (and irreplaceable) kit. It's one of the reasons I go.

I was having a poke around it with the team in the assembly area, got chatting to some of their guys and apparently the thing drops two inches once up to speed from the downforce and ground effect it generates, which explained the 'bus door' brushes lining the sills and diffuser!
As it happened the driver was a bit unhappy about us lot peering about under the bonnet... One thing I would say is that the hoses and manifold looked like they were specced for considerably more than 1 bar of boost!
Perhaps with the supercharger it was compound charged rather than sequential, so 1 bar could only be the first stage?

Good to see a Celica in the news (ST205 driver for the last 8 years).
I agree that 700 brake out of two litres sounds pretty incredible, but on a specialist set-up like this I guess it's plausible. The intercooling must be pretty heroic though to deal with 2 bar. I run 1.1 bar with water injection and that's bad enough.
Still quietly hoping that Toyota resurrect the Celica name for this new coupe which is currently saddled with an unrecognizable string of letters and numbers. :/
Then we might get a GT-FOUR version.

Yes I think that puts it in perspective. I love Celicas (well, the 2 litre ones) but I'm glad the Lotus got it.Max_Torque said:

And, for those who are hillclimb afficianados, see Rod MIllens pike peak celica, which had similar horsepower i think, from a 2 litre engineI stand corrected, it was a 2.1 litre engine, and made, so he claims, about 900hp.
