With half the races being shown by the BBC also.

Does anyone know if they will charge for this, I seem to remember that all previous deals were on the premis that F1 was shown on free to air channels only to keep the advertisers and teams happy. Could be wrong.

IF (and it's a big if) Sky won't show adverts I'll be happy. However I can see this being a little disadvantageous to F1 being that some people don't want to pay through the nose for Sky Sports (and it is bloody expensive)...

ETA: Sky say they're going to give F1 the full Sky treatment. If it's anything like IndyCar then we're screwed frown

It was bad enough when it was on ITV, but having to pay Murdoch to watch adverts in the middle of a race is one step too far.

I predict a massive reduction in the UK TV audience for half the races.

or is Bernie playing silly games again ?

Just heard Jeremy Darratt (sic) on R4 saying F1 will be on Sky and if there are adverts during the race I won't be watching.
A real shame because the BBC are producing the best coverage with the best team we have ever had.

You will already be paying for it as not everyone has sky or sky sports. I am fking fuming over this its the only thing I actually make sure I watch on tv. Might as well save on the fees n just go and see the silverstone race

This is bad news.

I fail to see how Bernie has got away with this. Surely all F1 races have to be broadcast on a free to air channel, not just the highlights.

I've barely missed a single race in 15 years and very much enjoy every F1 weekend. However, I have no interest in other sports and do not plan to spend, what, £20 extra a month(?) to watch 1 race, possibly with adverts throughout (assuming every other race is shown on free TV).

Bernie, you're a c**t punch

I did wonder this, British sponsors like Vodafone aren't going to be happy!

Not quite the worst news possible, but not far from it......damn, damn, damn......and as has been said, at a time when the BBC team does a fine job. Hope they don't go to Sky, that would be the final nail in the coffin.

Edited to add....didn't BCE recently say what a fine job the BBC was doing? Shoud've known something was up then.

I dont see why Sky Sports would put adverts in the races? Or do you mean through the pre race program? Its still massively bad news for F1, not just in the UK as loads of countries use the BBC feed.

So much for free to view then.
Awful news.
Half the GPs for the BBC?!? Who thought that up? Well I have no interest in watching Abu Dabi and Valencia, but the rest of the season has been epic!
Only thing that could make it worse is Legard frown

I lost interest in F1 during the ITV years due to intrusive adverts and irritating commentary. The BBC have reinvigorated my enthusiasm for the sport with excellent coverage, but just when they've perfected the commentary team too, they do this.

I'm not paying Sky fees just for F1 and only seeing half the races isn't going to hold my attention in the way the current coverage does. I guess it was just too good to last

Damn. That means it's going to look cheap & naff. Looks like I'll only be watching half the races from 2012 onwards.

well that's three hours of my Sunday afternoon i will have to find something else to do in. Not going to subscribe to sky sports just for F1 and missing that many races will mean its difficult to follow the action of who's who and doing what in the title race. Highlights shows always used to leave me cold as they have the same problem, one minute this is happening then the next so and so it winning.

Very bad move for the sport. Lets just hope its the donnington/silverstone of the TV world and it takes down sky the same way Bernie did donnington

The IndyCar coverage (as I said earlier) is pure proof of this hehe

And the Sky Sports website:

Also, is there going to be a BBC backlash?
