At least it is on VT4 without the French wink
but still the lads prefer to watch the BBC broadcast and Telenet has better picture quality on BBC than you get back in Blighty
I'll stick to BBC1 HD via Freesat here in the Kempen
I don't know anything about VT4, Telenet, HD or Freesat...
but I know I pay a lot to have the right to use my TV!

Of course the Flemish look at a Flemish broadcast, and the French-speaking at a "French" one.
I just find that it isn't normal to have a Flemish on the "French"TV, as it would be bizarre to have a French on the Flemish TV.
Anyhow I prefer the BBC; their programs are well-done, although I do find one doesn't learn ANYTHING in Top Gear, one only laughs!

At least here we don't have to pay a licence fee to the BBC wink
Yes we do pay a lot for TV/Internet/phone from Telenet, more than I would pay for the same service if I lived back in the UK.
Freesat is like TV Vlandren ....

You're a greedy little dhead Bernie. My mate's mum was your assistant when you used to sell secondhand old bangers all those years ago. Maybe you need to remember that ALL of the F1 fans, and those of us that worked in the industry, helped to pay for your brat's £45m princess's palace.

I used to try and like you Bernie, but actually you make me sick ... for god's sake I even prefer Max Mosley now, and that's saying something !!!

Time to step aside Bernie, before you completely ruin your own legacy.

We only need to pay the license fee if we wish to watch certain channels live. If we are happy to watch programs on the channels delayed, ie via the internet then there is no fee due.

Seeing as half the races to be shown on the BBC next year will be delayed anyway then we can just watch the races later and it's all free. biggrin

I ken that well, I've only been living here in Belgium for a couple of years.

MAybe Bernie can go the way of Spanky and we can get some other motorsports on the TV. The one I really miss is Truck Tials, nearly tempted me into getting a Unimog smile

With most of F1 moving to Sky next year I wont be watching anymore so he can do what he likes for all I care. Now my weekends will be reserved for BTCC, which I enjoy more tbh.

I knew he'd be the downfall of F1 , as been said before Bernie needs to pass away ,then formula one will come back from the ashes.

He says a lot of stuff because he can.

I think he likes to show his bosses at CVC he is still a mover and shaker. I think he just enjoys throwing his weight about in the fashion! In terms of it being clever, I in fact think as business tactics go it is a little crass personally. But thats me.

I am not a fan of the way he treats people or organisations. See hanging Donnington out to try totally. OK the project was fronted by a guy whose eyes were way to big for his wallet, but bernie exploited that to negotiate with Silverstone.

Even if I had a race circuit, I wouldn't go into business with the man for all the tea... because

I agree with the sentiment, he is annoying a lot of the time, and does stuff that pisses me off, but senile he is not, clever he most certainly is. At least you know where you are with him, some faceless corporation running it would probably utterly stuff it up and then we'd probably all be praying for Bernie to come back.

In fact he did a very good job for Tourism. Think of the American who visited Europe for the first time thanks to him and Nazis.

perhaps it was too much to ask because it might have become an interesting thread. Bernie is a remarkable individual. Anyone who could take F1 from an insignificant weekend amateur race meeting at brands hatch to what it is today and do that in their life time is pretty special. To say that he does not like the sport and is only in it for the money misses the point by a few yards even miles.
Did you not see his interplay with Vettel two weeks ago.
His market and audience is the world. not individual circuits. It is pretty foolish to say that the European following is
larger than say Brazil Japan and China.
What remains fascinating is that it has it base here in the UK. We still have the best brains for engineering and because there is not the time to outsource to cheaper countries and because they do not have the skills nor can they deal with such minuscule production runs it will most likely remain here.
It is a shame when we have the worlds best promoter and possible one of the cleverest that the immediate reaction is only to express envy and pour scorn

See managed to say all that without a single swear word.
Cheers

Bernie, despite the hype, did not take F1 out of the amateur era. That was done well before his influence with the commercial rights. Bernie did a fair bit when he was manager of Brabham but both Frank Williams/Patrick Head and Ron Dennis did much more to bring the sport into the current professional era. Bernie was separate from the spectacle.

Amateur? I don’t think that is right. Ron Dennis built McLaren regardless of (perhaps even despite) Ecclestone into a massive business. Ferrari were in the wilderness because of the professionalism of the British teams. For ten years, Williams and McLaren were F1 because of their professionalism. Bernie’s influence on the sport came later.

If Frank Williams can run a desire for money with a love of the sport, it is a shame that Bernie can’t. He’s out for the money only. Williams is every bit as acquisitive as Bernie but also has some feeling for F1. The same goes for Dennis. Despite his ‘Business of Winning’ mantra he is first and foremost dedicated to F1. I saw him sitting in the #1 Mclaren GP car and he was out of the world.

What made Ferrari into a professional F1 team was not Bernie but the challenge of Williams and McLaren. Ferrari had to buy the members of its team to get anywhere near the British teams. This had nothing to do with Bernie.

F1 would have survived had not Bernie become involved. The BBC would be running F1, probably not with the investment they have at the moment, but we'd not be gazing at the screen wondering which Tilke creation the cars were wasting their time travelling to.

Amateur? If you accuse Head of that, can you let me know. I like a bit of fun.

Bernie's main influence has been on the broadcasting rights. Everything else he did for F1 was a bit amateurish.

His mrs (recently divorced him for I know not what) took an awful lot of his cash and he has to explain a bit of financial trickery in Germany and maybe HMRC as well, that is what being a big/little mover and shaker brings on.

Perhaps if everyone stopped spending so much money on F1, then Bernie wouldn't have all that cash and be such an arse... if you don't like it and it's overpriced, don't bloody well pay for it! If everyone took this approach then it would be much cheaper to go to F1 and no worse.

The sponsors are going to love 12 or 13 races around circuits with a couple of thousand spectators spread thinly around the grandstands. Silverstone has more for Friday practice than many countries can hope for on a race day.

I would be interested to know how many Europeans make up the numbers at many of the 'away' races, you are never far from a Brit in the crowd at an F1 race.
