Erm...

I bet a large majority(?) of the TV viewers are Europeans who want to see races held either in their home country or at one of their favourite circuits (Monaco for instance).
If the races take part in non-European countries at circuits without any 'heritage' then the viewing figures are going to drop.
Now if locals aren't actually going to the races and the TV viewing figures are down then where is the advertising revenue going to come from?

So, maybe the races in Asia earn more in fees than, say, Silverstone but when you've got no TV viewers than it all goes downhill rather quickly!

It wont happen, Bernies failures are starting to mount up on who he's given Grand Prix's to (china, turkey, bahrain etc) and sounds like old age is starting to catch up with him.

The Sport is based around Europe where is has it's biggest following anywhere in the world, all the money in the world wont change that.

Its crap because all of teh major teams are in fact based in Europe and test there. Bernie is full of it. Yes places like India, China and Brazil are becoming very rich but they are still under-developed and have no motoring heritage. Can anyone say 'remeber when Senna and Mansell fought there'.

Bernies waffle is exactly that, nothing more and dont forget hes is bloody old now, it cant last much longer and i doubt Tamara or Petra can take over for him!!!

I'd love to see the manufacturers pull out of F1 and set up there own series, like what was planned a few years ago.

That put Bernie well and truly in his box!

Time for the breakaway series.

No Bernie, so lower costs and free to air TV.

Racing in countries/continents that love the sport rather than the business. Europe, Australia, South America and North America. We can get the old tracks back.

[Edit]Yeah, what he said.[/Edit]

Remeber - Bernie does not own F1. He is an employee of CVC.

This just confirms to me the increasing irrelvance of F1. The sooner the GT and rally guys get their act together the better as far as my time and money is concerned.

Bernie, if Europe is so bad, then why don't you personally vote with your feet and piss of and live outside of Europe?

You've probably long since paid any tax here anyway.

Let's start a campign to get the little turd out of Europe!

"What do we want?"
"Bernie out!"
"When do we want it?"
"Now!"

and repeat and repeat and repeat......

Nicely put in the article. I'm out for one, he can keep his precious business, I'll devote all my attention to sportscar and GT racing instead. Total dickspring, as has been said.
Yep...me too and he might be rich but he can't take it with him.

I'm really not that interested in F1 (prefer to watch what's left of WRC and BTTC) but I still can't help hating Ecclestone. He comes across as a self-centred, money-grabbing ahole who doesn't give a st for the sport that he supposedly represents! furious

There's not enough money in the world to stop people disliking him though. That's a sad thing for him, no matter how rich he is.
Surely, given his attitude, he can't be concerned what mere peasants like us think of him! He's probably surrounded by enough fawning flunkies to be unconcerned about what's going on in the real world. banghead

Europe is the past. He may have a point - at least in an economical sense. But if we accept that as a given, F1 is fked, too - as visitor numbers to most if not all of the 'new' countries' GPs testify.

All in all, this sounds like openly admitting F1 in its current form is akin to flogging a dead horse.

Don't worry, Bernie...your F1 show also belongs to the past for many european motorsport fans...

Motor racing for people who don't understand racing. This is Bernie's F1

Well, I've never heard that particular form of rhyming slang before, but I agree: Bernie is a complete and utter publicity stunt.

I realise that, but it's clear who still pulls the strings, decides where the races are and how much everyone has to pay for the privilege.

Bernie could make the worse mistakes for F1 and it wouldnt matter to him.
He'll retire in a few years so any changes he makes will be the next mans problem.

But if he can make a few extra quid by making changes before he leaves then it doesnt make him an idiot.

Greedy and not looking out for F1's best interests maybe, but hardly an idiot.

He's in it for the money after all.

He did the same at QPR. (That a football team) smile
Paid a few hundred thousand for his stake and sold it for millions.
Okay he didnt change the rules to ruin it and his cash did get us promoted, but i bet he had no interest in football just a quid buck.

I seem to remember sometime in the 1970's, whilst Marshaling all over the uk almost every weekend, and Bernie was still climbing up his money tree, he made a derogatory comment re race marshals. He got collored somewhile later my a few angry marshals, who informed him that they were the most powerful force in F1, seeing as they marshaled the British GP for a £1 a day, if they decided to F***K off 5 minutes before the start, he'd bloody GP would be a dead dog.

Wouldn't it be nice if Bernie threw in millions to help make tracks like Donnington super amazing again. He would still have wealth beyond belief, and his family would still be set up for generations. He would go down in history as a human with a heart.

Wouldn't it be nice

He's not much of a businessman as this article illustrates.
Business is about more than just making as much money as possible.
Bernie increasingly reminds me of cartoon characters - he has $$$$ signs where his eyes should be.
