Great idea, I would even go to Bognor just to see it, if it came about.

Yes very pleased to see that. I am hoping to try and contact the owner to see if they would be interested
,council permitting, to drive that down Bognor seafront on the 2nd of july next year.
Would be a great way to mark 30 years since his passing.

That is great to see. But the car is not forgotten by many of us, nor especially is it's driver.

The LEC will be part of the top 10 shootout today, which will be shown live on SKY Sports F1 plus streamed on the Goodwood website if you would like to see it.

It's been a while since this topic was updated. Eventually, Arun DC did commission and erect a lasting memorial, although without much publicity.

Last Friday, on what would have been David Purley's 73rd birthday, a tribute and wreath laying was arranged by members of the Bognor Regis Motor Club.

The memorial can be found on the Shripney Road just north of the where the LEC factory used to be:

I have just found this site and listing following an article in the Bognor Regis Post. I mechaniced for David during his early years with a Chevron B8 and his first season with the Brabham F3. While I'm not sure he was the greatest driver in F1, unfortunately following Silverstone we never got the chance to see, but he was certainly one of the bravest and one of the greatest 'blokes' I have had the honor to know.
I think a permanent memorial to him in Bognor would be most fitting, but instead of Sainsburys what about the newly opened Marston's 'The Charlie Purley', which is on the same part of the old LEC factory and already features the CRP1 F1 car on it's signage.

I have just picked up on this thread and thought people might like to see a picture taken of David's old Chevron B8 as mentioned by Simon. I own it and it is storage waiting to be restored/refreshed before being liveried as David Purley and Chris Skeaping ran the car at the Brands Hatch BOAC 500 Kms event in 1970. David was and is a hero of mine from the 1970's - my first Grand Prix was the 1973 British and then a couple of weeks later Zandvoort.........

I have always wanted to own a car raced by him and now do so.

One of my favourite cars of all time.
