Purely was the chap I used to kick off a thread about amazing bravery a couple of years ago. A long time hero of mine.
Altruism and racing don't always go hand in hand, yet Purley embodied both.
OP why not show 'the video' at the meeting. Those images say more about the man than any words can.

I grew up in Bognor and even spent a few summers washing up in the staff canteen at Lec to pay my way through university. I also remember seeing Purley flying his plane over Bognor when I was a nipper. Let's just say it was normally pretty easy to figure out if it was him!

Mmm well this may change the direction this may take a little.Had a phone call today from a chap at a firm called GKA who are community relations firm for the construction and development industry.
He informed that there will be some "art panels" along Shripney Road and they seemed quite keen on the idea of something to do with David and the LEC F1 team.

Went along to the meeting this evening,got the idea down on paper and will also e-mail the idea in as well so just wait and see.The deadline for proposals is 29th Feb.
So along with the contact I had from GKA which I will pursue further I just hope there will be something at the end of it.

Will get back on this a bit nearer the completion of the building,have had contact with all parties concerned and it is a bit soon but ongoing and will update when it gets nearer the time for them to do the art panels.Nothing is cut and dried yet but the right people are aware and interested.
I hope nobody minds me posting this here, but I visited the Tom Pryce memorial in Rhuthin a few weeks ago. It is very near the EVO Triangle and well worth a visit to pay one's respects.
Also worth remembering the touching statue of Roger Williamson at Donington.
David Purley is equally worth of permanent recognition in my opinion. Best of luck to all those working towards the goal of marking a great man.

Excellent news, great to hear OPOk,so fair to say I got well and truly suckered in by the false promises of the developers and their PR.
So anyway 2015 is 30 years since David Purley passed away so I am thinking of two options,
1, try and arrange some sort of gathering along Bognor seafront at a weekend near to the anniversary of his passing.
2,see if the FoS would do some sort of tribute.
Would be great to get the LEC F1 car on display and to tell David's story to a generation that may not know of him.

Sorry to hear you've not managed to secure something with the developers - not through lack of effort I'm sure. A real shame people don't value local heritage and a true hero.
Whenever I go to Donington Park and see Roger Williamson's statue I recall that footage and Purley's desperate attempts to save him.
Be great if something could happen for 2015 - the FoS or the revival would be a great place for that.

M8rky, well done for trying, it is surprising that sainsburys did not do something ! Considering what they did for the town in the terms of money! As a Bognor resident it would of even nice if they did.So anyway 2015 is 30 years since David Purley passed away so I am thinking of two options,

I have suggested a tribute to 'The Lost Generation' at the FoS to the Competitions Department. If you could get a couple of interested parties on board, like the Donington Collection, I'm sure you could get their interest. Alan De Cadenet has just written a 'de Cad's heroes' piece on David Purley in the recent July 2013 issue of Classic and Sportscar, so he might be worth contacting?

David's LEC is no longer in the Donington Collection. The car is currently having a full restoration at WDK Motorsport, to have it ready for a return to the tracks next year.
That is great to hear,and answers a question I was pondering while walking along Bognor seafront today.I was thinking how great it would be to see the LEC F1 do a demo run down the seafront on the 30th anniversary of David's passing.
