"Ever had the girl you love tell you she's going to work as a prostitute?"

What a great way to put seeing the car you helped develop shipped off to pay drivers.

Very sad to see Kris not driving, BMW must have pulled the finances back severely.

Seems a strange move if they are taking one car to Monte how much more would it cost to have 2 cars entered (ignoring pay driver in 3 rd car)?

For fk's sake! I was really hoping for a WRC revival next year. Being on ESPN has meant I've not enjoyed the WRC as much this year, but I have still been following it. Solberg's driving for Ford was great news. MINI pissing around knocks us back 2 steps.

Absolutely gutted for Kris, he's a top guy and a top driver - hopefully he can get a full drive elsewhere.

I fear that the issue at the root of all this is that being on ESPN means that a large number have not still been following it..... frown

The Poker by David Richards was not at this time. What the clever Prodrive boss once achieved success with Subaru, he could not repeat again with Mini.

A year ago, both sides launched their joint project motivated. With a clear division of responsibilities. BMW developed the 1.6-liter turbo engine, Prodrive took care of the car and just as important to the sponsors. But in the latter failed Richards. He did not succeed financially strong partner with to get on board, despite the supposed brilliance of the brand name "Mini". Again and again there were violent clashes between Prodrive and BMW, because holes should be filled by additional money in the budget from Munich. Richards was able to throw commendable achievements in the balance, because the mini-WRC turned out to be surprisingly competitive, but when you look at BMW did not even soften this.

The lack of enrollment for the World Cup 2012 was an unmistakable sign of the demise of the project when it was sold then also the space in the cockpit of the second factory cars, it was clear: Prodrive lies not only in large financing needs, but BMW will finally lose a partner. Still, both sides keep a low profile, because the FIA is wrestled to a way in which the revised John Cooper Works WRC can be homologated, when the official enrollment is missing part of the manufacturer. Finally, Prodrive will continue to rely on a good business with customers cars. However, we must now pay for any BMW engine delivered the customary price.

The end of the Rally of mini project should also have direct implications for Hermann Gassner jr. The environment of the youngsters was planning to switch to a mini-S2000 in the coming season, talks between the manufacturer and Gassner-sponsor Red Bull, however, designed to be difficult days ago. Once in Munich, was apparently finally pulled the plug out of the rally theme, must orient itself Gassner shortly before the season start from scratch.

Oh dear.....

add in the NOS/ Promoter issues - with only 2 weeks to the Monte opening ceremony. it's looking worse than bad. Still no news on the TV, media coverage.....

Prodrive have lost the plot recently - the AMR1 at Le Mans being another failure. They've lost the magic - or was it running two major programmes at the same time a mistake?

Motors TV have been advertising the Monte for the last few weeks so they still seem happy enough with it, even with the embarrassing B.S. that is going on frown

As with prodrive they seem a shadow of their former selves at the moment, fingers crossed they can turn it around.

Am I the only one who has been watching it on Motors TV??

Coverage is not the best but you do get the news on each event without having to pay ESPN for the pleasure!!

agreed. i also get it on Ralio (being a welsh speaker has its use).
as crap as all the badly placed incar footage is its still better than reading about it in the papers the week after the event. (one incar i remeber tem using, in Mexico i think, was so badly positioned all you could make out was the roof vents and tree/mountain top . . . . yet they still ran it for half a stage rolleyes )
plus having people upload espn stuff to you tube helps, as long as your quick enough to get it before its taken down.

as for MINI and Prodrive in this years championship, iRally has a report today saying WRC & Prodrive are working/talking to each other daily on getting them into the championship, however the problem MINI WRC have is the rules state full manufacturer status requires a 2 car team at every round. Sordo so far has commited to 10 and unless more money can be brought in by him thats it.
the 2nd car is being 'pimped' out to anyone with enough money to enter it at the mo, which sucks for Kris. one of his best assets was Colin McRae, before his death he was mentoring Kris and helping him get the backers that he needed for the various things he did. but once the McRae backing ended so did the cash as Meeke still wasnt as big a name to be associated with as Colin.

i hope MINI can get something sorted as the Ford v Shi troen battle has been boring over the last few seasons, and MINI really spiced things up on the few events they did.

All that said tho, i asked Santa for a Blue Oval clean sweep this season, Jarri-Mati to win the Drivers title, Solberg 2nd and Ford to get the Manufacturers trophy . . . . . .i just hope he got my letter wink

It's an A-series.
Sorry yes, it was wrong! Read it elsewhere. Apologies to all, sorry it led to some unsavory comments from others.

This is correct info (thanks mab):

BMW took over in 1994......Rover had already planned to end classic Mini production for good in 1996 when it failed to meet new European safety and emission laws. BMW could not believe Rover management were planning the end of their most famous brand worldwide and that Rover could not see the future value of investing in the classic Mini and its future replacement. BMW then insisted (with John Cooper's help) that several million pounds was invested in the 1997 Mpi A-Series engine upgrades to reduce emissions, along with front rad, side impact door bars and an airbag/seat belt pretensioner SRS system was added all of which kept classic Mini production going for another 4 years. All classic Mini's after this date have 'BMW Group' in their handbook!
