Do we all agree here that JML is the fastest driver but he doesn't have the whole package (yet) to keep it all together like Loeb?

I don’t think there’s much doubt, however, it’s no good being that quick if you keep throwing it off, making mistakes, getting punctures, breaking suspension, etc We've been saying this for quite a few years, and he doesn't change.
Surely there comes a point when Malcolm Wilson & Ford instruct both Jari-Matti & Petter to finish the events, and stop taking risks in an attempt to win. Loeb accepts he can’t win and takes the points.....
Just look at his lead, and the Tarmac rounds are to come.....

JML might be the fastest around a corner on gravel/snow, but he struggles to complete a stage without mistakes never mind an entire rally. Loeb is miles ahead of him on tarmac though, only Sordo manages to get close.

I have to agree with all of the above really! But if I was to choose one driver to watch then it would be him all day long! Loeb was pretty boring to watch apart from his mini push following a puncture!

When Latvala came past us with his puncture he came into sight hugely sideways and was just as fast as anybody else though the quick left hander that followed, mad!

So who the hell is going to beat Loeb?

Anyone? This year? Next year?

I don't want to sound like a fan boy and I'm not getting into another debate, but nobody will beat him before he retires - he's one of the best rally drivers of all time. Ogier will come close if he gets a decent drive but I think Loeb will at the end of next year (with ten championships).

Him and JML are the only people who have the pace to beat Loeb, JML just makes many mistakes.
JML to VW?

Nobody will beat Loeb. He is too clever, too fast when he needs to be and has the best team. And then there is the fact that the other teams and drivers keep on self destructing, whether it be luck or doing something stupid! When Loeb has a rare slip up the others dont take the opertunity to close the gap, and they need to learn that they cant win every rally and for example should settle for a podium!

I think Loeb will aim for 10 WRC Titles - then concentrate on the WEC with his own team. In fact he is driving this weekend at the Le Mans test....

Legend, Genius are overused, but he is!!

thing is tho, JML is still only 27. Loeb wasn't even competing on the full WRC at that age. JML will win many titles, but only after Loeb has retired.

Ogier had done very little rallying before getting the Citroen drive compared to others. His natural skill level looks exceptional to me

Ogier didn't take up motorsport at all until he was in his 20s. Maybe there is some hope for the rest of us.

I always think that, I'm probably an amazing rally driver who can win many F1 titles too....just haven't been given the chance.

Amazing, even with the occasional bit of rain!

We did 1400km getting to stages and saw 12 out of the 22 including shakedown and qualy! We could have seen 2 more but we were held up too much by traffic getting to one stage and just watched the cars on the road section, while time was too tight between our flight and the power stage! The stages are free, and you can watch from pretty much any where, but some of the marshalls are a bit mental and dont have a clue what they are doing. We were ten yards up a bank on a straight on SS1 and the marshall was going mental, so we just ended up taking the piss out of him all stage, and shook his hand on the way out!

Pics from qualy and shakedown where we saw Loeb chase a dog over the flying finish, Alkuwari slam on the brakes at the flying finish boards and Tanak break the steering on his Fiesta! We may have made the timing go mental, sprinting through the beam to get a look at the damage hehe

Great photos Ally. I assume you were there with J4MIE and the other MSF people? smile

People can say what they like about the WRC, but I bet it's still a great experience to go to an event like that.
