coppice said: Am seeing my first NASCAR at Charlotte in October. Tickets booked , including pit lane and race shop tour. Oh and Mustang to drive there from Atlanta - got to do it properly for my first trip to USA! Any hot tips for a first timer who has watched road racing since the 60s but never been to anything like NASCAR- apart from a very dull afternoon at Rockingham watching whatever pale imitation they ran in Northants. Check out if the Richard Petty race experiance is running when you are there, you get to drive a toned down sprint cup replica, I went 145mph when I went and as our colonial friends are eager to say, "IT WAS AWESOME!" enjoy your trip. We are going to the Kansas chase race, picking up a buddy near Atlanta and cruising up in a Cadillac!

That sounds amazing, I've begun to plan a US road trip after Uni is finished, and of course attending at least one NASCAR event is high on my list of priorities. Just a quick note to everyone, if you haven't got twitter then I'd highly recommend you do, most of the drivers are on there and do post some really interesting stuff. Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson have been posting photos up from testing at Atlanta today, and I'm sure you'll remember a few weeks ago, we had a red flag and Brad Keselowski tweeted a photo from inside his car. Here's a few to get you started: Brad Keselowski: @keselowski Mark Martin: @55MarkMartin Michael Waltrip: @mw55 Scott Speed: @scottspeed Jeff Gordon: @JeffGordonWeb Jimmie Johnson: @Jimmiejohnson

Try @Team_Onion - Todd Bodine, driver in the truck series, for an alternative viewpoint. I really enjoy his tweets. EDIT - if you can *enjoy* tweets

First trip to Dover this weekend. All three classes will be battling on the monster mile. Green Flags, UK time. Truck: 9:50pm Friday Nationwide 7:15pm Saturday Cup 6:15pm Sunday So ironically we are back to normal timings, but given its a bank holiday night races would of been ok ! Nationwide race is love on motorsTV 7pm Saturday. Mark Martin is back in the #55 Truck racer Ty Dillon will be making his debut in nationwide.

Seriously fast track, and it's had a lot of rain on it recently. Could be a hairy one judging by that, and the first 4 laps!

They overlay loads of graphics and ads at the bottom in the US. Syndicated channels like Motors TV don't show them. The quality goes to hell when they do the picture in picture stuff like leader cam etc or when it goes to frames to show the bottom bar.
The regular picture's quality isn't great either, but I think that's mainly due to the fact it's not an HD feed and the light is pretty awkward. Compared to ESPN's coverage in the US it's certainly looking a bit... 'budget'.
That was quite an impact on the wall - I'd love to see a super slo-mo of it as the radiator went pop in quite some style!

Nice drive by Logano to make up the places in the last 40 laps, pity about Danica what goes around comes around I guess. Busch was fun to watch as usual, brushing the wall a couple of times.

Yeah, she annoyed me in Indycar and she still annoys me in NASCAR. Felt sorry for Ryan Truex losing out on the win, but I suspect he'd have been caught even without those backmarkers blocking him, as he was skating around all over the place at the end. Not sure if the Cup race clashes with Indycars from Detroit, but shall do my best to catch it. Dover is certainly an interesting track!

Agree on all points, you do wonder how long the danica charade will continue before someone goes "actually, we can do better". I guess it'll be when the bucks stop rolling in. Poor truex looked gutted didn't he, he got a nod from Mark Martin on twitter for his performance though, which must mean something. In other news Kurt Busch reminded everyone why he's an asshole : On Air: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_OJCl5wJUwOff Air: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJV64B_QdaM

The question was a bit provocative, to be fair. Busch seems to be the most exciting driver to watch, from the half a dozen races I've seen so far.

Until Hinch starts winning a few in Indycar perhaps? Ok, he's not marketable in the same way (to be polite), but he's very web and media savvy and I reckon the fans would take to him in a second if he ever went to NASCAR. As for Busch...he can be an idiot, but there is something oddly refreshing about him. He comes across as heart on sleeve old school NASCAR in a way. The media getting in his face won't help, but then that's them trying to get a reaction so they can be shocked about it.
