They had a close up video of the track section involved and it looks like it's been damaged somewhat. Of course I'm ignoring which would be easy to pick up. It's pretty late at night in Florida - after 11pm - and the area covered in fuel is quite large compared to your average fuel/oil/coolant spills on track.

The only hope I have heard is that due to previous 'pot holes' and damage on the track during a race, there may be a contingency repair that can quickly and reliably repair the tarmac. It looked to me just like shallow rough patches where the asphalt tar/bonding material melted and burned off leaving just the solid material (gravel/sand?).

So glad we didn't bother to go to the track again this evening....thank god everyone is ok after that accident really nasty.....but what a circus.
