Put it this way, how many people own a TV with a built in free view receiver and still pay for Sky?
Most TV's have built in freeview so I am not sure of your point.MTR

Incidentally, I've just discovered that the casino at Westfield will have the F1 on in its 24-hr sports bar. Hmmmm...
Well if the previews on channel 408 are anything to go by then Sky are going to be doing a superb job.
For example, there's a 10 min film from the Willisms F1 factory of this seasons car being built from the ground up! The camera is fix on a wall and it's sped up over what looks like a few weeks.
I really can't wait for the channel to get going next Friday

That impressed you? I was watching it and I thought "well yes, there's some blokes standing around drinking tea" but because it was a time-lapse with shots taken every minute you didn't actually get to see anything actually being done - it was straight from "part on the floor" to "part on the car". And that's probably a decent analogy for everything they are showing as a preview - not getting to see anything being done. As an example the archive footage of the 1967 British GP - five minutes of build up, ten seconds of the first lap, ten seconds of the last lap, and then a load of footage of the podium.
It seems to me rather as if they aren't actually that bothered about cars going round in circles, and would rather focus on the "personal interest" stories that are in the paddock. Interesting though those are, I do actually want to see cars going round in circles.
What footage did they have of the 1967 British GP? I presume it was outtakes from the 1967 documentary on the Cosworth DFV (9 Days in Summer) - which has been shown quite a few times in full on TV over the years and is available on youtube.

I'd love to see some original TV footage from that race. It doesn't look like any video recordings survive of the BBC broadcast.
Of course, F1 footage for 1980 and earlier years is not owned by Bernie or CVC so can be shown by anyone who pays the owner of each individual film or TV record (just like the old days before Bernie grabbed the sole rights). That's why ESPN have been able to show real;ly great surviving TV recordings (not film) from 1973/74/75 and 76.

It'd be very nice to see as much of the pre 1980 stuff as the broadcasters can get hold of, it'd also be nice to see full re runs of entire seasons of the archives that Bernie does have.Of course, F1 footage for 1980 and earlier years is not owned by Bernie or CVC so can be shown by anyone who pays the owner of each individual film or TV record (just like the old days before Bernie grabbed the sole rights). I wouldn't say Bernie 'grabbed' the sole rights, the other team owners were not interested so it was a one horse race for the commercial rights.
At least the earlier stuff, what there is of it, is easier and cheaper to get hold of - and isn't locked away in Bernie's dungeon.
We are already customers of Sky (I moved our phone and broadband to them in January). As our sky box is now quite old we have decided to upgrade to HD and get a new box as part of the deal.
It's an extra £10.25 a month for the HD, and we chose the 1TB Sky HD box at £49 and are getting a £50 M&S voucher.
