Here's the title sequence for F1 on Sky. I'm struggling to see why they'd want to advertise the fact that they don't have The Chain, but there you go...
As I've stated clearly on this thread, I'm in full support of Sky's f1 coverage, I'm sure it will be excellent. However, that opening title is just awful! I hadn't realised that we'd lose 'The Chain' as the opening title music (though in hindsight, d'uh!). Nothing else prepares you to sit back and get ready for some f1 action, quite like those first few bars of The Chain. C'mon Sky, you can do better than that?!

First of all, I was one of those who thought that The Chain HAD to come back when the BBC got the F1 coverage back, funny how things change though, as it never quite gave me the same 'hair standing on back of neck' feeling as it did when I was a child. Times have moved on and I personally don't think it quite had the same appeal recently.

Also, I think many of us agreed that the 'techno style' intros from ITV were sooooo wrong, maybe that's why we all wanted The Chain back.

I've watch this intro several times now... and the more I watch this video, the more I'm liking the tone of the music, and as for the clips - OMG... Fangio's onboard clip is awesome - hope Sky F1HD show that fully sequence in one of their extra programmes in due course, and look at the 'air' the car is getting at 15 secs (correct me if I'm wrong but is that a BRM or Lotus?) even the Tyrrell is getting a little light footed at 18 secs too. I can also remember Mansell's blow out as if it was yesterday (25secs)...

Give it 12 months and we'll all have forgotten The Chain, well those of us who are going to get to see all races live of course laugh

Thank god they didn't get Cheryl Cole or some other X-Factor reject to lipsink to some monotone Cowell track!!!

I'm really licking it, in fact I'm really liking everything so far from Sky - just over 1 day to go woohoo

Some press releases/ blogs on the new shows that I thought you might be interested to read:

and you can get an idea of the studio and the different roles in this:

I'm hoping you enjoy the preview show, it's been a massive project for the company I work for!!

Interesting, so long as all this technology is used post race, not during the race. I want to watch the race as it happens. We can then enjoy all the analysis afterwards. That Virtual car sounds interesting, are they planning on using this in a more dynamic way of how Autosport Magazine keep us up to date with the technical updates from the teams throughout the season, interesting. However me thinks that the teams will not give you all the data for obvious reasons wink

They aren't allowed to do anything during the race so it won't interrupt the race, it's the same feed that the BBC get.

The virtual car is quite cool actually, it'll be interesting to see what you think of it, Anthony Davidson is shaping up well. The YouTube clip I linked to is very indicative of the kind of stuff you can expect from him. It's been interesting to hear him in the rehearsals.

I'm guessing that video of Anthony testing the touchscreen will not look like it's stuck in the back of a studio warehouse once the shows go live! I liked listening to AD during practice coverage that the BBC ran. He comes across as an informative and knowledgeable guy, good for him to be given the chance to spread his wings with Sky, though deep down I'm sure he wishes he was still racing.

Haha! No, you can see the touchscreen in the press release (the first link in my post above). I'm an F1 fan and have a decent idea as to what's going on, and the insight he's offered so far is really good, so it's something that I think adds to the coverage. It's a very different style to the BBC, but both have their merits and both will be a good watch I think.

We are already customers of Sky (I moved our phone and broadband to them in January). As our sky box is now quite old we have decided to upgrade to HD and get a new box as part of the deal.

It's an extra £10.25 a month for the HD, and we chose the 1TB Sky HD box at £49 and are getting a £50 M&S voucher.
Just signed up (from a bog standard Sky box and basic package to Sky+HD). Word of warning, trying to do it online, they wanted £49 for the box upgrade plus £60 for installation, phoned them and got box plus installation free. Total cost £10.25 per month, nothing else.

Fair enough - although I am, sure that most of that footage will have been seen before and will possibly be available through other sources.

The absolute BEST source of archive motorsport (old F1 and others) is the Motorfilms Quarterly Series of DVDs hosted by Doug Nye.

Are you sure? I know that base package to get F1 costs a minimum of £30.25 (£20 for Entertainment pack and £10.25 for the HD pack)

Except I will be watching ALL of the races live, but will be watching the BBC for half of them. So I won't be forgetting about The Chain.

Ah, so you are an existing customer with an older non-HD capable box, and they wanted to charge you for a replacement when new customers get the box for free. Just like Peacockantony I read your initial post and wondered what was going on.

Quite right that you should be able to get the same deal as new customers. I wonder how many people have just accepted those extra costs to upgrade their older non Sky+ boxes?

Is this standard practice in the industry ?

It just seems all a bit underhand - hoping that their customers wont question the advertised price to upgrade

Why not be more upfront about pricing , esp to existing customer ?

or am I being naive ?

Underhand don't be silly - you seem to forget that a large chunk of the company is owned by Murdoch, the same person who owns the Sun (and owned the now defunct News of the World). Now, just ask yourself, would he be involved with anything underhand ......? ........rolleyes

No, it's a balls up.
Oh dear , another balls up by this group of companies - is there a theme here ?

It seems its never a balls up that the customer profits from is it ?
