When the cars were doing the out lap there was a small VT of the drivers commenting on the day ahead
I hated that, interrupting the warm-up lap. I've never felt that the warm-up lap was a boring lull that needed to be filled with something.

The drivers said nothing you didn't already hear in the pre-race.

Im on virgin media and subscribed to sky sports last week(22.50) to get the F1 channel.Ive watched the qualyfying and race on the F1 channel all weekend and thought the coverage was pretty average to be honest, certainly no better than the BBCs last year.

Ive also just watched the BBCs highlight show and to be honest I dont really see the point of paying for the sky channel. The highlights was excellent. Before today i was expecting the one hour show we got last year on sunday night but this was much better, the only real downside is that it is not live so you have to make sure you dont hear the result before you watch it.

So,with the BBC covering half the races in full and an excellent highlights show for the other half I am basically paying for around half an hour of extra racing per month.

Not really worth it IMO.

Much to Mrs Philthys annoyance, I just watched the race for the second time.

Imagine stealing a Rembrandt, and cutting some brightly coloured pieces of it out of the frame? Now take a big broad brush, dip it in some grey, and fill in the holes. If you like, you can throw some glitter and gold stars onto the wet mush.

Welcome to Sky F1 HD.

My complaints:
Crofty: Just STFU, I can see someone is on the grass/whatever thanks.
Bird with black eyes: Why are you there exactly?
Atmosphere: When will some arrive?
Character: Martin, you have attached yourself to a leviathon. As big an anchor as you are, you may not prevent this disaster.

Disappointed, and I get it for "free".
My sincere advice to anyone thinking of subscribing just for the F1, just don't. Watch half of it on the Beeb.

Hard to explain why it worked on the Beeb, but it did. Maybe it was the informality, or the chemistry between presenters/pundits, but it worked. It still does, but to a lesser degree.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the race, but am saddened by the coverage.

Next weekend will be the crunch, but being honest, I think it will be BBC highlights for me.

Edit to add:
I have two sky go accounts going for free if anyone wants them, I won't be bothering. Just PM me for the details.

It seemed to me like the BBC showed the whole race anyway, couldn't put my finger on any significant jumps ahead. Which makes the Sky debacle seem more pointless to me.

The BBC extended highlights were OK but the do miss Brundle's precense IMO.

Still not sure on Ben Edwards as a commentator though, no chemistry with DC but then again only first race together.

Gary Anderson didn't bring much to the party

Some posts on here are a bit like the iPhone v Android debate, people comparing things that are very similar and making out that one is brilliant and the other is rubbish.

F1 on Sky is broadly the same as F1 on BBC last year, it really isn't very different. I like the techie additions like the stuff you can see on the iPad or online but beyond that it really is much the same.

I only watched the BBC as it is all I have to watch! Managed to avoid hearing the result as well before the show. The BBC was a bit light on interviews before before and after the race but they didnt have time beofre the race, and did interview Button. He comes across so well with Jake, DC and Eddie.

The highlights themselves were good I thought, hardly noticed the gaps, and of course no need to watch the laps under the safety car! The commentators were commentators although I was amused on 2 occasions when DC said things and was immediately proved wrong.

The after show talk was good although light on interviews, although they did have Jenson again, didnt show any of the press conference for some reason.

It will be interesting to see what happens when they are both live, as the BBC are likely to have the bigger and therefore more sponsor friendly audience.

I also thought the sound they played coming back from an ad break was the same as the ITV one but slightly slowed down!

Broadly, as in they both show F1 racing?

Beyond that, it's chalk and cheese.

No it isn't. The footage of the race is the same, the commentary of Sky is a combination of BBC TV and BBC radio of last year, the concept of a presenter with two ex drivers (Sky) or one ex driver and one ex team owner (BBC) is broadly the same. Some of last year's irritants have gone, some new ones have arrived but really it is very much the same.

Except that one of those conceptions worked, the other doesn't.
Subjective I'm sure, but the contrast is very marked for me.

Well I hope you enjoy the BBC then, I doubt that most Sky subscribers will share your view, it wasn't exactly the same as last year but it was so similar that I really can't see the problem and the extra time and the extra facilities like the iPad app were well worth having. I'm not saying that it was a great leap forwards but nor was it any worse.

Sky Go is just a means of viewing sky channels online. They've already shown the whole race several times on the F1 channel which is on Sky Go

Sky's on demand offering is Sky Anytime, Go is their option to watch live online. Anytime isn't available online (AFAIK) whilst iplayer obviously is, but meanwhile the BBC doesn't have an equivalent of Go (again AFAIK).

My SkyGo has anytime but currently only has highlights of both qual and the race that's why I asked.

Sorry, but that's total rot. I enjoyed the BBC offering more than the Sky one. Whether you think that's sensible or not is irrelevant. My opinion is that there is a difference. Your opinion is that there isn't. Your opinion is no more valid than anyone else.

So, I'll make my own mind up thank you very much and at the moment, the Beeb are ahead. Whether that continues is yet to be seen.

Watched the race on Sky. 5 laps in and the shouty commentator was doing my head in. Thankfully he calmed down a bit later on.

Had the Beeb's coverage on this afternoon out of curiosity and the missus instantly tuned in, which she didn't with the Sky coverage.

I think that was the Beeb's master stroke - making F1 accessible to all.

Yep. Nail walloped squarely on the head there Eric.
Which would matter so much more if the BBC hadn't choked and handed Sky all the races on a plate.
