1984 British Truck Grand Prix
Discussion
Pretty sure that that particular Roadtrain was a "French" spec one fitted with a Rolls 340Li engine. In that same race Willie Green drove a Silkolene sponsored ERF and Steve Parrish drove a Merc. Barry Sheene also raced but I can't remember what truck he was in. We were standing at Redgate and everyone took a step back when 6 tonne of ERF made its way through the gravel trap and ended up virtually in the fence !

Correct. It was a French spec Roadtrain with a 350hp Rolls. Yep, Willie Green in the Silkolene ERF. Steve Parrish in the Mitchell Cotts Mercedes. Sheene was in a DAF...Resin Rocket said:

Also fondly remember the Austin Rover motorsport day at Donington, think it may have been 1985. 3 tests of motorsport, autotest in a Rover 216 Vitesse, rally stage in a Metro 6R4 and circuit race in Montego Turbos. Think it was won by Juha Kankunnen but I may be wrong!
ya bd.....33 years I've known you, and only now do you tell me that...

I was there
I was only 6 or 7 at the time and I remember my dad taking me in green ambassador!
I have some photos somewhere that I will scan in.
I used to love the truck racing, we used to go to Brands in April and Silverstone (not sure when!) every year for ages... good times

wasn't Gertie repainted later into a dark blue with the flag? and a smaller engined version (300 bhp?) joined her called Flo?
Close. Gertie was re painted for this event. She was a sort of sky blue in the flag but became royal blue for the 84 GP along with a shed load of new sponsors. Yes, there was a sister truck that was slightly smaller and less powerful (300hp iirc) called Flo. Well remembered...!Roop said:

This was the colour scheme I was thinking about with a bit more blue.Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
