What better way to for the bahrain population to rebel against their royal family then to do it at an event which will be screened to hundreds of millions of people world wide.

I fear this will not end well.

Yup, I reckon someone will run onto the track.

Beside the point, what's good about them staging the race?

Just watched practice sessions. Nice to see Schumie top the sheets.

The F1 show is on now. A pair of bumbling idiots, in the pitlane, asking pointless questions.

All it takes is one person for everyone else to follow.

Money over safety?

yes great news
I think it's awful news, personally.
Agreed.
Will you still watch the racing?
Good question - if it actually happens, ( I still wonder if this is all posturing for financial reasons) then I will most likely watch it. Am I being a hypocrite - possibly

Surely 100's of millions of worldwide TV viewers will be too much temptation for some kind of protest, potentially a dangerous one like a mid-race track invasion.

Whoever sells ammunition to the Bahrain military must be rubbing their hands together and seeing dollar signs at this news.

I think they are asking for trouble, just pray its not at the expense of some poor Bahrainee going through a F1 drivers crash helmet at 200mph :-(

FWIW- easy to host another race in its place, just re-run China but let Bernie put the sprinklers on like he's always wanted if it doesn't rain this weekend :-)

I still wouldn't be surprised to see it cancelled a few days before due to problems in the build up.

Bernie will then state that he always said that they shouldn't have gone but it wasn't his decision and he's only made a few tens of millions out of it anyway, hardly worth bothering.

You only have to think about the Hockenheim and Silverstone track invasion (both only 1 person) to realise how close that could have been.
Hoping that if the race does happen that no one (be that spectator, driver, crew or marshall) is injured or worse....

I think staging the race is a bad decision.

Bahrain on again = bad news. It's a very boring race track.

What's that you say, what about the human right abuses? This weekend's race is in China the number 1 country on the human rights abuses world league table and last weeks was in Malaysia which has a dirty record too. Just Bernie's kind of people.

££££ money talks I guess. Bernie and his like always put the £ before trifling issues like morals and human rights.

Aren't the circumstances somewhat similar to those that led to Fangio being kidnapped ?

As already said, something will happen.

Seen a few tweets saying that various people are not too happy about having to go.

This is one of the ones that the BBC aren't showing live isn't it? If so I'll probably look for the result on the news and see if it's worth watching. I've a horrible feeling it may not be as uneventful as the FIA seem to think it will be.

Have now seen 2 interviews on tv with Bernie E ref the race in Bahrain and he comes across so badly - like a nasty little spoiled child, I can't think of any other person representing a sport to behave so badly when interviewed.

Charm or churlish? Certainly not charming comes across as a vile little man.

Pre War Mercedes & Auto Union were funded significantly by the Nazis
Max Mosely wasn't exactly critical of his father
The South African Grand Prix took place for many years under Aparthid

It is similar to the whole outpouring of disgust over Scott Tucker's or Vic Lee's business dealings - even a cursory glance at the people involved in motorsport over the years will reveal that the sport is filled with dodgy people with right-of-mussolini political values.

If you want morality then look elsewhere - this is big business and big business is only interested in money (which is easier to make under oppression)

I suppose people always thought Fred Goodwin was secretly Father Christmas as well?

It's good to see that it has not been cancelled.

Following the logic of many on here , a few other GPs should be called off. China poor human rights record and no plans to change. Military killing farmers to make way for western factories, is this ethical and should a GP be run in China?

Are you telling me he wasn't? scratchchin

In an ideal world politics would play no part in sport. The problem with F1 is the vast amounts of cash involved and the number of people looking for their slice of the pie. People are so much more forgiving with a wad of cash coming their way.
