Prompted by this post from the BTCC Thruxton thread (and with all respect to Andrew Jordan):

That has to be the definition of 'on it'.

Very impressive
...what would be your vote for "the very definition of on it"?

Personally, I only need a sniff of an excuse to post this (again): in summary, double the lap length and horsepower, halve the technology and enjoy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWOq94g2HB0

Often brings a tear to my eye. Speakers to 11 if you have them, its aural sex.

But there must be a raft of stuff out there that Ive not seen and would like to. Lets have them then!

ETA: If youre going to the trouble of linking to a vid, it would really add something to add a line about what it is and why you think it deserves a mention. Otherwise its a just a thread full of links to youtube, which isnt the idea.

Fair enough....that is also quite on it!

It was something of a throw away comment when I made it, but it raises a point.

I think 'on it' is where with a supreme effort, a driver manages to transend the ability of the car and to an extent their own ability, and is as much about cajones as it is about skill.

For example, Andrew Jordan was foot hard down with the car balanced just on the right side of the line between in control and out of it, and took some very fast bumpy corners constantly adjusting the balance of the car.

The Peter Brock video speaks for itself. Not the fastest, but 100% commitment.

ie - 'on it'.

I know that 90% of the onboard shots in WRC are pretty spectacular but nobody made it look more spectacular than Colin - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTUviCzqovw&fea...

The cameras that bump and move around a bit certainly make it look more 'on it' (not to take anything away from the drivers of course!)

It's not always the famous ones who 'can'

Here's a vid from inside a MkII Escort - no-one can touch his times...

http://youtu.be/XEvChd5lceU

EDIT: have a look as he goes up the 'steps' @2:50 nav:'flat over crest'

& from the same rally, but a different driver surely if you can hold a slide over a jump that's 'on it'

Thats bloody impressive. But the element of danger doesnt really permit him to get properly untidy. I like stuff where the element of luck appears to factor as much into the driver's plan as his own ability.

This is a particular favourite - Ari Vatanen at the Manx:

hehe Have a look at 'the steps' - 2:50 in on that video and then look at this where they did get the back end untidy. It's the same place but from the speccies point of view and it really doesn't come through in the video of the commitment...

Jurgen Alzen at the 'ring....some of the closing speeds on the other "competitors" are scary!

The initial section on the Nordschleife at around 1.50 almost looks like the video is speeded up - brilliant stuff biggrin

That is the one, isn't it? There's some great clips of films out there, the Senna ones, Schumacher on a qually when he's tweaking away at the brake balance, that Jurgen Alzen clip is a great one, there's the Derek bell ones from years ago, the Vatenen 'Dear God' and Pikes Peak films...

but this McRae one has to be the best for me, of a driver absolutely 'On It' in a massive way and for a long time.

Brilliant.
