In terms of keeping motor racing a secret I'm the last person that would want this, I encourage others to attend meetings and share the spectacle of a great day out, be it at a local club event or internatioal race meet. My anxiety as always is when events get so popular to the extent they are then a victim of their own success. As mentioned in the original article where else can you get up personal with the teams and drivers. With rising popularity its aspects like this that are the first to change along an esculation in cost.

There is a choice to go or not to go I accept things move on and change for the greater good (in most cases). I will still chooose to go as much as it is practically possible and I will support this and other events as much as I'm financially able to.

As for being a dick, at least its better than being called a
What you don't seem to understand is it's a business and you and I are not really very important.

The btcc/dtm pay to hire the venue/track so that's all paid for, the venue owner msv for brands want as many people paying to get in as possible as that's also profit for them, there not too fussed if mr general admission had to wait 10mins to use the toilet or couldn't meet his favourite driver during the pit walkabout, it's getting as many people thru the door and giving them as little as possible but enough they want to come back.

The teams aren't bothered about us either unless we happen to actually sponsor them, so our role is to turn up watch the race and eat the venues food.

I do understand this and to a degree I understand where you are coming from. obviously it is a business at the end of the day and all those involved want to maximise their income streams. This includes the sponsors who are looking for widespread product placement to appeal to as many as possible. If there were no punters, fan base or tv coverage to large audiences etc why would the sponsors throw their money at the teams. If I was part of a blue chip company I wouldn't be sponsoring a motorsport series that hasn't got a positive public profile.

But the fans turning up to watch races aren't that important, it's the many more who watch on tv who count.
Look at say a touring car event you get loads of trade stalls but none from the actual team sponsors, it's all clothing and pictures.

Watched the ITV4 highlights this morning, wish it could have been longer than 30 minutes but it was pretty good. DC's walk around the car was interesting, those things really are a front engined F1 car with a saloon car skin on top.
