Yes, it was a fine win but put in context - joke tyres that perform inconsistently race by race.
scratchchin remind me to trot this out after every win this season.

Is there a list of drivers where this would be trotted out, and a list of drivers where it would not? hehe

"Pastor has won in every category he raced in and also Bruno [Senna] won in GP2, so we are very much looking forward to Monaco," Wolff told AUTOSPORT.

I think Maldonado's drive was very good, he made no errors, and for his first time leading a GP & being hunted down by a gypsy he did rather well.

Is he WDC material, not yet. Will he ever be, if he gets a consistantly fast car & some luck them possibly.

I like to watch a season of racing.

Pastor binning it on the kerb at Melbourne compares with that race since then when Perez was told to be careful and bag the points rather than keeping on it and trying to improve the result?

Comparisons with Rossi chasing down Stoner yesterday (that's the first MotoGP I've seen since before Simonchelli's untimely death).

That's how I see it. Reserve judgement. The Guy is still a relatively unknown quantity. Mind you, at this early stage of a career in F1, that is true of ALL drivers.

I believe PM showed a lot of potential prior to the most recent Qualifying and race result. Thus, anyone who also noted that 'previous' PM form, the last GP comes as no big surprise.

Mind you, that engine helps... and in the Lotus too. Probably the best out there in recent seasons. Don't take my word for it. Ask Red Bull. A powerful and reliable French car engine ... who knew ? .... wink

This thread is hilarious. The guy outqualified his team mate by a mile, was second fastest in qualifying, drove an absolutely cracking race, but it was all just luck?
Quite correct. Hilarious indeed. Had Hamilton and that other driving 'God' Alonso done exactly the same, it would be their obvious superior driving talents in a 'dawg' of a car.

hehe

So Maldonado races hard and is branded a thug, Hamilton races hard and is branded a saviour? Interesting....
... yes, and obviously entirely without prejudice... smile

Agreed, the swerve on Hamilton at Spa last year shown a rather nasty side to the chap.
No mention of Hamilton's initial 'jink' which caused a response from PM. Maybe I was THEE only one that saw that. ... rolleyes

MGJohn ~ McLaren Fan.... sod my luck this season .rolleyes .. and theirs ... hehe

Almost identical incident to Hamilton's Monza crash '09.

It's funny how until Barcelona the other week Perez was the next big thing and Maldonado was a chump even though he beat Perez to the GP2 title. The only reason I can think of for this is that Perez has nice teeth and hair whereas Maldonado looks like someone on day release.

Don't forget Rosberg, he was the next big thing after Perez.

If Bruno Senna wins I'm not reading another F1 thread this year, the increasingly tenuous references to his uncle already make me cringe.

You can't help but feel a bit sorry for him, everytime he's mentioned something about Ayrton is said, I'm sure the guy just wants to get on with his career.

Joke tyres make that assessment harder. For example can he 'outdrive' a car without the benefit of inconsistent joke tyres.

All things considered, even without the evidence of the most recent GP qualifying and result, if I had to put money on it at this stage, I would on the basis that he is more than a little useful. Quite possibly more than a tad better than that.

You see 'Joke' tyres, and you're in good company with a seven times WDC... wink I see same tyres for all.

Irrespective of the tyres, there has never been and never will be a driver who can "outdrive" a car. Very many have tried and failed. The Armco Barriers around the circuits of the world will always provide evidence to support that.
.

Only I from the many PHers appear to have mentioned the effect those very reliable and powerful Renault F1 engines have had on the GP results in the current and past several seasons. Red Bull, now Lotus and even more out of the blue of oblivion, Williams.... Good eh.. wink

To be honest I was all in favor of banning him after his swerve into Hamilton at Spa, he certainly would have been out if it were my team he was driving for.

Still can't quite believe how lightly he got off from that.

...

As I was saying earlier...

If he isnt handed a substantial ban for that given his previous then there is no justice.

If this was the first time,it would be bad enough.

If it where the second it would be unforgivable.

It's not even the third............

Try the Monaco thread. He cut across a slower car that was allowing him past. Then crashed alone a bit later. A little naughty step sitting penalty likely to follow.
