They stopped them because they covered the sponsor's logos on the overalls...
Ah that sounds plausible.

Well done to the 1 car - really think they deserved it - but I do think Mr McNish needs to have a long, hard word with himself...

I admire his speed and ball-out racing, but FFS, he needs to stop the silly mistakes - he's good enough not to have to take some of the risks he does IMO. I'd love to have seen him win this year, but after hitting the barriers in the Porsche curves I was shouting at the screen !!

Good event overall - as they said on Radio Le Mans, it was a 'typical' 24 hour race, and I hope Toyota come back stronger and hungry for victory next year.

Seems kinda funny seeing the winners wearing laurels.

Does annyone know the last year in which F1 had laurels? Eric MC maybe?

They continued into the 80s. I remember people like Alan Jones, Nelson Piquet and Gilles Villeneuve wearing them -

here's Gilles on the top step of the podium following his win at the 1981 Spanish GP

Good racing this year. I was more interested in the lower classes like the Corvette and Porsche race which was great. But as for LMP1, I don't no, this all feels like a shallow win if you ask me, did you really think Audi would not win Le Mans this year, lets face it, they had almost no competition.

But that's not audi's fault/problem.
You enter your team and race against whoever else turns up.
Your right, I fully agree, and Audi deserves the win, It's just a shame that Jag, Merc, BMW, Honda could not get more involved with Le Mans.

Thought I'd seen them when I was young - Italy 1985 would appear to be the last ( Atlas F1 FAQ):

I think it's on it's way back onto the radar of some manufacturers - Toyota and Nissan were both there in force, Honda are wanting to raise their profile, and Porsche are coming. Beyond them, I'm not sure how many other manufacturers would get enough out of a presence at Le Mans to make it worthwhile. Jaguar need to get back into the GT class though, and it's a shame BMW only lasted a couple of years but I guess their DTM programme is more in line with their overall market strategy of competing against Audi and Mercedes.

Good point, isn't Pironi wearing a Laurel wreath on that Imola podium?

Given all the development work Porsche are doing on their 918 hybrid hypercar, I would think that a LMP1 hybrid challenge would be ideal for them. Sadly, given the fact they are now part of VAG, it's unlikely we'll see them challenging the Audis head to head.

Actually, you should very much expect Porsche to go up against Audi - they have said that's what they want to do, because without Audi being there they may not have any proper competition.

And Audi will be happy to go up against a strong competitor and prove how good they are.

So, all the signs and comments are that the VAG group will let them go for it, which is great news for us fans.

There was an article in last month's motorsport saying just that.

Dr Ulrich was quoted as saying (paraphrased) it's difficult politically, but it has to be done, for us and them."

It would be great. I'd love to see Porsche back in LMP1 and all the investment they've made in the technology of the 918 would leverage nicely into that.

True - guess it depends on their target markets too, and whether motor racing will help sell cars there. But would be good to see some proper money being spent to do it properly.

I wonder if Peugeot are a little bit disappointed they didn't have one last run. With the problems Audi had it would have been epic to see them and Toyota up in the mix.

Presumably they are very disappointed as this year could have been a success for them and the money being invested in the Citroen WRC is basically going to waste as there doesn't look to be a long term stable platform to promote Citroens through WRC anymore what with the series going tits up.

Well done to Audio on a brilliant win. The cars speed and the team work put in was astounding.

The budget needed to run 4 cars must add up to something stupid. I guess Audi will hope to sell a few cock extensions.... sorry cars after this wink
