I have to say I misjudged Todt. I thought he'd be a disaster but to give him his due, he's been by far the best out of the last three. Not saying much I know.
WRC has stuttered. This year's been very busy for me and I've been unable to do anything. However, I was looking through August, when I'm clear, and the weekend ticket to the British WEC is £35. There's an hotel on top of that but even so . . . £35 for a weekend ticket to a FiA World Championship is great value. Even adding in the camping it's excellent value for money. I can think of another British FiA World Championship event that is the exact opposite......yes, RallyGB....I'm talking about you.

epom said: I wonder is Bernie trying to distract people from other stories in the press this week ?? Well at least someones awake! Former Bayern LB banker Gerhard Gribkowsky was convicted of breach of trust, tax evasion and bribery for the $50 million received from Ecclestone during the sale of Formula One in 2005. In his concluding arguments the state prosecutor Christoph Rodler argued that Bernie Ecclestone, who paid some of the money, was not the victim of extortion “but the accomplice in an act of bribery”. Gribkowsky was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison. Gribkowsky had told the court in Munich last week that allegations that the money he had received from Ecclestone were bribes were “essentially true”. It remains to be seen whether Ecclestone is now officially investigated by the Bavarian prosecutors.http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2012/06/27/gribkows...

A really nice PR stunt by Santander - pure nonsense of course. Much the same as the Olympic park nonsense from last week.

But of course no-one in the press or media would fall for that now would they. Except Bernie didn't announce it - he merely jumped on a bandwagon started rolling by Santander!

Talking of the 89 Wheatcroft Gold Cup at Donington, the Internation Car Race Meeting, 7 June 1965, at Crystal Palace, the Easter Trophy Races on 15 April 1968 at Brands and the VSCC race meeting on 26 July 1969: I have the programmes - just found after sorting through the loft. If anyone would like them let me know via PM or I'll bin them. No room in the new house for such memorabillia. Postage appreciated.

nickbee said: It would be impossible to shut an enormous area of central London for the length of time reqired to turn it into a GP circuit. You can debate streets vs circuits or London vs provinces as much as you like, it's all academic as it will never happen.
We might as well discuss putting a track on the moon (bad idea IMO, activating DRS would probably lauch you into the Sun). It's all so easy to say a London Grand Prix can't happen... Like those who said we couldn't deliver the Olympics, we can't build stuff on time, run a major even. Other countries get on and do things but here it's so defeatist, waste of money and of course someone is only doing it for the money. Most of us only go to work for the money. Yeah I love my job but not enough to do it nowt or a lot less then I get. It people want it to happen and the right people get behind it, a London GP can happen. Yes closing a section of London, installing fencing and grandstands would be a huge undertaking but with planning it could be done. Bits of London get closed off for the events like the Marathon, Sky's Skyride. Of course a GP is a whole other thing buy why not. As for this deflecting heat from Bernie's handing out some fun money, it's not like he's been all over News at Ten about bribery or the London GP is there either. The bribe story has been around for a long time now. And has been pointed out, Santander are behind the proposal, why wouldn't Bernie jump on the bandwagon, for it to take place, for the teams to turn up, he would be the one everyone speaks to… no matter how much people might hate that.

ThePlanner said: Can you back that up with evidence. £100 million what planet are u on I don't think it was meant in anything but jest but bearing in mind every time you drive past some cones (with no-one doing any f**king work despite the fact that there are how many people unemployed who could be paid to pick up a spade and get the sodding roads fixed and opened again) there tends to be a great big sign saying "road improvement works" and the numbers on them are always terrifyingly high. I always wonder if we are supposed to be impressed. I'm usually angry that the government willingly spends such massive amounts of money for very modest improvements in such lenient timescales.

I seen the video a few times now but I'm not familiar with London, is there is a still of the proposed layout anywhere?

I was at the event last night (at the RAC in Pall Mall) with one of my daughters. Have to say it was a great event, with genuine enthusiasm from Hamilton and Button and all. Couple of things made me smile. I was chatting to the chief designer who confirmed that only one car at a time can fit through Admiralty Arch. I felt that such a thing couldn't possibly work. Hamilton said "the one with the biggest balls will win!" I also asked the question of how the Queen feels about The Mall being turned into a race track and he said "don't think she know yet!"
I will try and post some pics / videos on here when I've sussed out how to do it. Possibly a link to Photobucket when I've uploaded them.
Personally, I reckon it would be a great spectacle. I was impressed by the attention to detail of the planners - it looked like a real good possibility to me!

If you pause the video 35 seconds in, then fire up googlemaps on London, it's fairly obvious what route it takes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xx7neIAVbxoCan't see it ever happening tbh, there's simply too much street furniture - signs, ped crossings, traffic islands etc. It would be an absolute nightmare. And bring London to a standstill for about 6 months in the run up.

Haven't read all the posts here but just cannot see this happening. We are more likely to get the Olympics in London than this. What ? Did i miss something ? Really should keep up to date with current affairs

Do we really need another street circuit ?
With rare exceptions the races are boring, the safety car invariably decides or heavily influences the race outcome (and even the world championship) and there's usually not much opportunity for overtaking.
Not my idea of racing.
