Shame they had to put that board on the side for sponsor space though...
IIRc its an msa requirement that the drivers cockpit is enclosed, so you have to panel in the sides of the car.

I dont think you can compare the MX5 cup (20 year old cars, very 'club level') vs a purpose spec-built atom race series with hospitality, and car included, can you?

MX5 Cup is 2006 cars onwards, so maximum six years old and very professional.

MX5 Championship is '89-'92 cars and is also very professional.

ETA: Both also have hospitality and TV coverage.

Anyone serious about their racing with £55K+ to spend will race elsewhere (Clio cup/Ginettas/Caterhams?), this is for people who are fans of the Atom and I would imagine will largely consist of gentlemen racers.

Fair enough, I hadn't thought of that. Makes sense if I think about it. Nice one sir! smile

Actually that includes the car, hospitality and race entry. They also do an all in package that includes tyres, fuel, storage, transportation and servicing:

No different ends of the race spectrum! Atom cup looks like a lot of fun - those cars will be very rapid - done well to get 250bhp out of that Civic engine though!

Are they that quick though? Not seen many lap times for them.

I would have thought they're pretty nippy 450BHP/ton would make them pretty quick. If the brakes are up to scratch and I see no reason why they shouldn't be, then I think it'll be pretty epic! About the same pace as a Caterham R500, I'd guess? Maybe a little quicker as no need to worry about it being uncomfortable for road use?

For the cost of this I'd much prefer to go Sports 2000, at least they are proper racing cars !

After VAT we are talking £63,834, £71,946 or £83,582 for the packages before you play with the options factor in costs of "racing incidents" and all the rest of the costs of doing a season of racing - say £80k to a shade over £100k for a season
That includes the car

Don't think you can compare Ariel to Caparo. Ariel have a much stronger, recognised brand and probably sell a lot more cars.

As much as I like the crazyness of Ariel, and they are local to me as well, I just can not get excited about this. It just seems daft to base a race series around a car that was never designed as a racing car but is not a normal road car either, why bother just design a racing car ala sports2000 zetec or similar. Like others have said surely anyone with any sense would be looking at something from Ginetta or a.n.other race series.

And to those who believe club level motorsport is bursting at the seams with loadsa money racers, have a look at the heavily subscribed championships. Hint, its the cheap ones, outside of stuff on the big packages like TOCA. MX-5's jam packed, PBMW jam packed etc. etc.
