They're changing to 1.6 litre, turbocharged (single) V6s with a rev limit of 15,000 RPM.

Might as well stick a VAG 2.0 diesel in them, to be honest. Pinnacle of motorsport my arse.

What would make them the pinnacle of motorsport?

Are they not going to be hybrids?

You can always tell the people who know nothing of f1 when they slag the ol V6 tubby.

it's a good thing they're going to that style of engine, they also have to be started without any outside assistance, which will change things HUGELY.

Just bring back fueling at pit stops! Was a lot more exciting!

They already are hybrids (those that have KERS at least). The rules allow for energy recovery from exhaust gases, i.e. recovery from the turbo shaft. And the rules allow you to motor the turbo to get it up to speed.

You're right, F1 is all about the engines and by dropping 2 cylinders and 3k rpm the cars practically won't move and will sound like corsas. Oh and the new regulations to limit performance and the way they have written the rules on the use of turbocharging definitely won't lead to significantly better power delivery.

Oh and before you comment on noise, I bet you're one of the people that said the V8s would never live up to the V10s that would never live up to the V12s. If so, what does it matter if it doesn't sound like the V8s, I thought they sounded rubbish anyway?

Crap, I've spilt loads of sarcasm on my keyboard.

Are some sort of inlet restrictions going to be used to control the boost levels that can be achieved?

Best sounding engine ever, not subjective, fact.

As for capacity we certainly don’t need to hear the monotonous drone of this engine:-

Hell it only revs to a little over 12k!

There's a fuel flow rate restriction, so no matter how much air you cram into the engine (i.e boost), you can only put so much fuel in anyway. Probably a whole lot easier to police than trying to set a boot limit.

Thanks for that.

With a restriction like that though, wouldn't it be possible to have an engine that produces say 700bhp at 7000rpm (big boost (and torque!!)) and still 700bhp at 14000rpm ? Of course having too much torque for a gearbox would be another issue which I suppose would mean that torque would be moderated to suit...
