Brundle summed it up nicely for me

Why so serious. I don't mind it. Would rather have that then an uptight corporate. At least we get a glimpse, as this is all we'll ever get to seeing their thoughts, unsure why that matters but it is interesting

You could tell us but it would be irrelevant as we're talking about Hamilton.

Fair enough if you think he's conducting himself well off-track. I definitely don't agree and don't know anyone who does but it's only opinion.
I think given everything his life consists of, it's hard to make a decision one way or the other, he certainly doesn't come across as malicious, he's certainly not dull or impolite, he is talented, well respected, and has made mistakes both in terms of on track antics and off track judgement calls...

I'm quite glad he comes across as imperfect and human. Sometimes annoying, sometimes childish, sometimes funny, sometimes insightful, damn near always entertaining...and highly skilled..and dedicated...
Interesting points Agoogy, and I know what you mean - a bit of character is a good thing, even if it can mean making the wrong decisions at times. That said, maybe it's just Hamilton that grates on me. I suspect it's the fact that he uses things like Twitter to deal with what ought to be an issue dealt with face to face and that sort of public airing of dirty laundry just reminds me of young girls on Facebook who gum the place up with stuff like "Nice to know who you can really count on - feel so betrayed right now!!!111!!!!" and nonsense of that nature.

He seems (to my eyes) to have not matured much since his time in F1 began. From his behaviour, I think I still imagine him as being about 21 and that annoys me as he's a damn good driver who ought to be behaving more like a man.

Anyway, personal opinions are just that so like/not like is ultimately irrelevant but all I was trying to say is that it seems to be that his gaffes are beginning to speak louder than his driving, and that's a pity.

I hope Mercedes is something of a fresh start for him at any rate.
Your argument falls down because his driving has been the best its been since 2008 this year. 3 non fault DNFs and a puncture on his first lap along with pit crew f-Ups/Gearbox Penalty/under fueling at Spain was it?? are the only reasons why he is not right up there with Alonso.

His driving(the main thing) has been the best its been for years. I feel some posters are just looking for issues & problems that are not there. Using an example of a tweet is laughable and your line about his gaffes speaking louder than his driving are complete nonsense.

Take a deep breath and look back at this season and his actual driving and qualifying performances(7 Poles).

Sigh. I'd really rather just leave this as you're the most blinkered poster in the world but FWIW, I don't think he'll win the WDC this year either. And I don't care about how many points he got this season versus whatever other season you care to name as the fact is, he ought to have more than one trophy in the cabinet by now. I much prefer JB, but Lewis, much as it pains me to admit it, is probably the faster driver and should have done better.

Also, I don't think my points are nonsense and unfortunately for you, simply saying they are, doesn't make it so. You have a uniquely belligerent posting style that makes it very difficult to respond to your points without sounding insulting/condescending.

What's everyone talking about? Lewis and his gaffes/where's he driving next year/the celebrity hangers-on

What are they not talking about? His driving/points he's won

WTF? Its you that has equated his Tweet with his lack lustre performances this year while i am pointing out that he has had more Poles than anyone else this year along with miserable luck with DNF's,Mechanical failures and you are just dismissing this??

And let me know what hangers on he has had this year? Just interested in what more nonsense you are going to spout as fact.

Relax chief, you sound as though you've just torn your shirt off and are typing in bare-chested rage!

I never equated his Tweet with anything. I said that in general, not just this year, Hamilton (to my eyes) looks like someone who is distracted. Through the small glimpses we are afforded through things like Tweets, Statements, Interviews, we build up something of a picture of a person and to me, that picture looks like someone who isn't 100% on his racing.

I really couldn't care less about this year - I'm talking about all his years. He ought to have won more WDCs than he has done. Poles, DNFs, are all irrelevant - what counts is championships.

Now please calm down; I don't see the need to keep going over this as you'll simply never see things any way other than your own. I don't claim to know it all about F1 but would rather hear from more level-headed posters if I'm completely wrong as I can't take you seriously at all.

LOL, so its all years now before he even used Twitter. Interesting that you cant name his Hanger Ons either? Its ok,thats a standard response from Hamilton haters. His hanger ons,his dad,his GF,earings and the latest one is his Tweets.

Your point was(Your Words) - all I was trying to say is that it seems to be that his gaffes are beginning to speak louder than his driving, and that's a pity

My answer to that point is - He is driving better this year than he has since 2008 and arguably better than ever

Please correct me if i have misunderstood and i will apologise fully to a fellow Glaswegian.

No, it's fine. I really don't care enough. I'm really not a Hamilton hater at all as I said several times that I think he's one of the fastest and I'd like to see him start fresh at Merc and do well.

I can't name all his hangers on, no. I have seen the man from the Black Eyed Peas - William, Rihanna, some other music faces etc. here and there. Of course, I'm not in his garage so have no idea how distracting they are/aren't but I thought the difference between how he and Jenson Button handled the downtime in Canada (was it last year, with the rain??) was interesting.

Apologies if I'm posting nonsense - I only ever claimed it as opinion though and it doesn't really matter to me one way or the other.

No, Adrian is the best of Vettel's generation.

Aero has become too dominant in F1.....we need to go backwards to get better racing.
When I read posts like this I often wonder whether you are new to F1 or whether you were in a deep freeze for a few decades. Because the racing over the last few years has been better than at any point since the mid-80s.

And if you're suggesting we should move technology back 30 years then I suggest you're watching the wrong sport.

I agree with Oyster here and surely the driver that wins it this year against arguably the most talented field deserves huge respect. Lotus.Mclaren,Ferrari and some other teams including Williams,Sauber and Force India have shown what a competitive field it has been.

Probably the most competitive in recent History from when i first tuned in.
