Hello Steve,
I finally got around to taking a photo of my cut-out switch. It looks similar to the one on Darren's car. Mine's got a fire extinguisher handle and a momentary push switch that goes to an Armtech battery isolator. As a road car, the battery isolator isn't a problem, but I think I'll only connect the fire extinguisher up to the handle when it's on a track. There are too many muppets out there who would find it funny to cover the car in foam/powder when it's parked up somewhere in public.
I don't know if these carbon fibre / gelcoat / fibreglass cut-out switch inserts were fitted to just the later AJP cars, or whether they'd already found their way onto the Rover powered cars. I'm sure there's someone out there with a lot more knowledge than me.

.....Rich
Thanks Rich,

Yes agree with being wary about fools who might find it hilarious to cover the car with extinguisher powder horrible stuff that Tims car was covered in it after the silverstone GT cup hanger straight fire incident....nasty stuff ...hard to get off...but does the trick.

I like the Carbon job and it would match my rear diffuser and oil cooler surrounds which will be lacquered ....right where to find one, ...could do with it soon as starting body tub prep today ...gonna extend the dash front edge to the screen too....

Off topic....my rear calipers are CP 5111 ( think from memory) same casting number as my Cerbera 450, so got same pads as are in my Cerb....pads don't fit the pin locating holes are in a different position!
My rear calipers are offset piston solid disc challenge car ones ...never been used so don't have pads.....any thoughts as to which pad I need I think the ones I got we're Pad20?

Thanks

Hi John,

Hope things aren't too hot out there in Barbados.....Ginny has given me a pass out to visit you....now that would be interesting!

This car will be on the TVRCC stand at the Practical Classic Show at the end of March so I need to get my backside in gear!

Not sure if I could recover this in carbon, I think I would need to glass in the holes and spray it the same colour as the cage....I need to speak to Perry actually bit ignorant of me not getting back to him sooner in all fairness...

Bit of sad news Buster passed away in my arms just after New Year....we now have another dog mastiff / staffie cross...Buddy..from the dogs trust .....so now we have two dogs ....with Boe a Big Staffie both having their nads removed this morning!

Hope your are all well...love to Jetty from us mate

black shoe polish and large head rivets that's the original way. These are race cars Steve not concourse show cars remember wink
Appreciate the post ...see where you are at....with race cars some bits like bonnets etc are considered consumables ...and lucky to last a season...

..I have spent shed loads of time on filling the bonnet over the last few weeks ...used I think four large tubs of upol easy .....that's over £100 in filler on the bonnet alone...most of it has been vacuumed off! ..

..the finish we are trying to achieve will be high end ....my body shop man will accept nothing less ...I think this road going car warrants it...

The car goes on the TVRCC stand at the NEC at the end of March...it will be painted by then...Richard will spend two days mopping the car on the stand.....Terry will be working with me too we will be fitting stuff the rear end support, petrol, fuel lines exhaust ....on the stand ....come along and have a look the kettle will be on!

whats that about race car bonnets being consumables!!!!!!!!!!
Well that's my point really....if TVR had done a Tuscan road car the finish would probably be half decent....doesn't mean that race cars can't be well turned though ..we have some cracking cars out there....with dedicated folks putting the shine back in following incidents...

We will be painting the car in the middle of March ....that way Richard can mop it on the tvrcc stand at the NEC ...can't paint it too soon as mopping needs fresh paint for best finish...

Sorted slave cylinders now AP and Girling ....Karl met JR at the Race Retro show yesterday and confirmed sizes ...running split system with a bias bar adjustable from the dash....( I know....)

Gotta get hand brake cable made....and fuel lines ...these will be aluminium with dash fixings ...

Got to take cage apart and paint it too....all good...

The car will be on the TVRCC stand at the NEC Practical Classics Restoration Show at the weekend....Richard will be mopping the car, Terry, Karl, George, and me we will be fitting the exhaust, cage, dash, ....god knows what else!

Hi mate...glad you like what you see.....thanks, you never know...it didn't painted until 17:00 Friday night ( prob with paint supplier) I contacted NEC and told them that we could get it in there for the 22:00 build cut off, but the paint lacquer wouldn't be dry.....they agreed to let us get over before 08:45 at the v.latest...

We Terry. Michael,Luke, Richard Karl, Dave and myself , met just outside the Ricoh arena at 05:55..we fitted the body and bonnet and loaded it on Karl's trailer....got over there for 08:41....then took it apart again before the show doors opened at 09:00!

Did you spot Karl and Ben in his Roaring Back shirts from across the road? They have been members of the TVRCC since locating and securing Karl's dads Grantura MK1 last year....

Take care love to the three of you!

Thanks Jony,

The chassis was waxoiled on the stand, we made pads for it to sit on in areas where the cage didn't sit, we finished off the stainless rivets in the engine bay, we cut and fixed with sikoflex the exhaust area, fitted the exhaust, and fitted the roll cage, and steering column....engine, gearbox, bespoke prop, handbrake, diff, fully braided brake lines, sound proofing, carpets (tunnel area) were already fitted prior to show.....

Car now back at unit for finishing of mopping to doors, engine bay, doors,.

Now fitting hamburger lights and putting in wiring loom for lights ignition ....and ecu ....

Hi Nick,

Apologies for the delay in response regarding your post ....

Been extremely busy since the show last year, but managed to start wiring her and fitted bonnet etc...

But despite my greatest intentions other things have taken over ...

However we have had a cancellation for one of the cars at the Restoration Show next weekend, and I have been asked if we can bring the car along along to continue the work ....so we will be cracking on at the NEC next weekend!

Come and see us and have a cuppa!

Hi John,

See post above....been getting our act together since the recent request to put the car back on the stand....

Hopefully it will go down well with those that see what we intend to do....

Guess you will give me face to face feedback when we come over to your place in Barbodos in about three weeks....better do a decent job this weekend me thinks!

Terry, Michael and Luke (Tim Hoods team members)
Karl and Ben (you know them they live over the road and now have their old Grantura MK1 back)
And George will be helping out on the car.....electrics,dash,rad,sump,oil system, water system .....hoping to move things towards start up!

Hi There,

Well we had a busy weekend at the show...mainly concentrated on making the Rover Metro 1.4 Kensington body loom talk to the Chimaera 500 engine loom working off a Lucas 14 CUX ECU.

Michael and Terry cut loads of duplicated non required stuff out, Luke, Karl and Ben and myself worked on fitting Radiator (running twin fans) and the oil cooler etc...

Good progress in all fairness a couple of images of how she is looking now... ...

John,

That was a brilliant experience, thanks for showing us the island ...just awesome place...give me a shout when you start work on the boat I am mostly available these days...sure Ginny wouldn't mind biggrin ..thanks for the use of the "Animal" didn't put any dents in her and even washed the sand off, gonna frame my Barbados driving licence!

Obviously back in Sunny Nunny ...in contrast cold and rainy here today...

Back on topic Michael and Terry will be popping down to assist with the wiring Michael threw most of the metro wiring loom away ...we will be pressing the Stainless dash panels out once the press is fixed ...they will be working on Tim Hoods Sagaris most weekends though....Karl and me will be finishing off the headlights and working out the best way to mount the Lucas AFM ... Petrol tank will be taken back to Radtec for final assembly ...so still moving forward ...although my Grantura MK2a is heading forward too we are making a new Chassis for it...got original diff and steering rack too...

Anyway nice to see that you are keeping on eye on your old neighbour wavey love to Jetty, Brown and Molly

Update, update, update....
Hi Graham,
The work on this car stopped for around 18 months whilst we totally restored my dads old house, I was born in the front room ..some heart strings attached there....this is now pretty much sorted now and is where it needs to be....so now looking and getting the Challenge car finished...plus numerous TVR projects...
I have started on fitting the headlights and indicators, adapting the wiring loom to suit, we had the stainless desh panels that we designed pressed out in stainless they look great,
I dropped the challenge car dash off with the full hide and thread about 10 days ago with the trimmer...I have started on the dash gauge wiring and cut the dash around to accommodate the brake bias and 'kill' switch and start button...
Rear lights and harness in, fog and reverse light purchased (gonna wee some folk off with choice there I guess, but have broad shoulders😜), these LED lights are not inexpensive...
We have fitted winged sump and I have done the wiring for oil pressure and reverse switch too...so yes moving on👍
Been far too long...but intend to get oil in now and focus on start up....need to sort the petrol tank which has been sat with a decent chap for far too long ...so this is getting sorted..
Heard that you had yours project down at Burghley...we were away but George, Ginny and me would love to see what you have created😀
Have sent you text messages but had no response hope you guys are all ok....

Plus more still a way to go but heading forwards!
Off to radtec this A.M. to get a bit of Ali work done on the expansion tank ....
Pity photo bucket changed its rules ....

Hi,
Want to fit the dash but can't until I have sourced a two speed wiper motor with " park" function, the one I have now works, is an early Challenge car one but is single speed.
Should have sorted this before the car was painted .....
Spoke with Ivor W and Darren S a few weeks back ....thanks for your help chaps👍
Thought that a single arm wiper off a wedge would do the trick so asked Andy Tank if he had one he think he has but can't find it......so does anyone have one?
Or suggestions for a single arm set- up?
Thanks in advance
