Yet another street circuit

Looks like another soulless street circuit is about to be included for 2014 and a night race to boot what is the fascination with street circuits?
Monoco I get because of the history but even there the racing is w
k. What's everyone's opinion of this potential venture?

To me they are st. Watching the last race at singapore i thought it just looked like a scaled up indoor kart track, cars were driving around in convoys as overtaking was so hard and there is absolutely nothing to the track. Tarmac-concrete wall.
I dont know wether it was because it was at night aswell that made it worse, but it just seemed obvious to me that it was on the calendar purely for the money, and not for the racing.

The reason for Asian night races is blindingly obvious - and easy to understand.
It is so the race can be shown reasonably close to prime time in the core market for F1 - continental Europe and the UK.
Rather than faciliate the European fans by having European races in traditional venues - we are geting more and more of these plastic tracks with tricks and gimmicks to make them suitable for watching in Europe.

Street circuit driving isnt sh*t (OK, Valencia is f*cking awful) At Moncaco the drivers earn their money.
I dare say a resonably fit young lad, with a good driving head and some training on their neck could pilot an F1 car around certain circuits... well, maybe a GP2 car. They couldnt win a race, of course, and almost certainly come last by some way, but it could be done. I think.
The same could not be said for Monaco. I watch in awe of those fellas at that circuit.

Monaco is great because it is a TRUE street circuit. OK not the best overtaking etc but a unique challenge and even with its neutering, it's got enough elements of old to make it worthwhile.
Current 'new' street circuits are a bit ridiculous. They're all gloss and little balls. More a reigned in parade to bring the 'F1 Circus' to a new country.
The night race is equally pointless, since It offers no real additional challenge (with its cazillion street lights) other than upsetting the F1 drivers sleep pattern.
I think the only benefit of Singapore was that you could see Vettel's silly helmet lights. He appears to be becoming Dynamo from 'The Running Man' movie. !

Maybe it's just me, but I love the street circuits. It's great seeing the cars really move over the bumps and undulations in the road. I love Monaco, have really enjoyed Singapore over the lat 5 seasons (my favourite recent addition to the calendar by a long way), and always enjoy watching footage of the old Detroit street circuit, Adelaide, those kinds of places.
I do agree about Valencia being crap though - but that's not a "proper" street circuit in my book.

I took part in a weekend's racing with the Thai super car championship the other week, you get extra points in that drivers championship if you had pit and umbrella girls, could only happen in Thailand, be interesting to see the girls the F1 boys would have with the same rules.
On a serious note I agree street circuits are awfull I've never been to Singapaore dispite it being only a few hours away, no real interest.

I agree and usually Singapore is a good race but last weekend's just didn't go like previous year's races. We shouldn't pan it just for one bad race.
