How is having an opinion on a driver in the BTCC being a troll?
I've said my piece, its good of Jason to pop on here, somewhere within himself he will know his reaction to Arron Smith was wrong, sadly hes still not expressed that as even by the next race at Rockingham he was suggesting Arron should lose his race licence.....hey ho, it is what it is.
Funny how the sycophants jump to defend Jason but not a 21 year old lad who is the future of the series...without guys like Arron the BTCC will not continue as a decent race series. It cant just be a bunch of rich MD's driving around, it needs the youth...

Obsessive in his dislike, perhaps. But he has a point, sort of.

Like it or not, Plato is judged not only as a racing driver, but also, thanks to his high profile media career, his directorship of the BRDC and his much-promoted academy as a role model and an ambassador for the sport.
His (and others in the BTCC) actions on track would (and do) earn those of us in less lenient series' punishment, endorsement and fines, if not outright suspension. As I say, it's not only Plato, there are others who use moves which wouldn't be tolerated elsewhere, but they aren't as high profile.

Plato is one of the most high profile drivers in the country, with that (and the revenue it undoubtedly earns him from media and personal appearances) comes a responsibility - especially when he is the figurehead for an organisation set up to train young drivers. Dishing out summary justice such as that on Neal at Snett or making reckless moves on 'lesser' drivers such as that on Newsham at Brands is not what young (or older, more impressionable rookie) drivers ought to be learning from the pros. Neither is making a bee line for a mic and ranting every time you feel that someone wronged you any sort of example to set - the worst situations always arise when hot-headed drivers seek some kind of come back - complain to the officials by all accounts, but let them do their job and decide who's punished, trial by media just demeans the person making the accusations. Of course the media doesn't help in this respect, controversy is good for business.

Thank you.

fanboys will be fanboys.

He's a public figure and a BTCC driver, he has opinions on Arron Smith which he has a chance to be vocal about on TV and also via the pages of that disgusting rag the Sun run by that lovely Murdoch man......he can slag off other drivers like last year in the Sun regards Matt Neal and others and how cheated he felt that RML couldnt be bothered to make a new turbo car like dynamics...so thought they would moan till they got 'parity'.....
Well let people stand against this. Freedom of speach and all that.

Jason has called drivers names via twitter, like Boardman being a 'talentless '...

Now if he can dish it out...he should have a big enough nose to take it on his small chin...

I dont expect his fanboys to like me, but i also like Jason does, speak my mind.....

All those who are quick to chastise me for an opinion, as your beratting me for crtising your God, just think "is there any sportsman or celebrity that i dont like?"
If the answer is "no" then fine....your a better man than i...but i'd wager there is a footballer you dont like, or an F1 driver maybe? or a film star?

get over it...not everyone is liked...

I take it Dave Bartrum is aswell? Matt Neal?

What about someone who tried to insinuate that another team asked their young driver to 'take out Plato'....
If that is rational...then im happy to be mental thanks....

Dave Bartrum and Matt Neal don't go off ranting about Plato at the slightest provocation (or no provocation at all, as you've done before). They only complain when they feel they've been directly affected by something Plato has said/done.

I don't know what your second sentence means, it looks like the stream-of-conciousness rambling that a crazy person would write.

do you even follow BTCC?? Plato suggested that Arron Smith was asked to 'take Plato out of the race' at knockhill..... keep up. it sounds like the musings of a mad man cause it's Jason's mind I'm referencing.!!
doh!! go do some research ..

I have visions of you blokes being like the guy of of Alan Partridge, the obsessive fan!! loads of pictures of Plato around your box room at your mums house, sat on the Internet pretecting Plato from nasty words on forums eating haribo and Plato sandwiches... nutters...

I'm not a fan of Plato's (sorry if you are reading this!) but you have to respect his racing ability and what he's done. Without him in the BTCC it would be a much more boring series. Makes you wonder who the personalities are who are going to step up and take centre stage once Plato and Neal pack it in? He's always going to have the cameras in his face after the race because he's usually at the front end of the drivers and because he's one of the few drivers who isn't completely awkward and boring in front a TV camera, basically, he makes good TV viewing.

I'll still be cheering on Rob Austin come Sunday. Gotta go for the underdog!

Agreed, he has achieved alot in BTCC, al be it some achievements were after the 'glory days' of BTCC. But yes he can drive a car bl00dy well no doubting that....but thats what makes it worse. I mean Chris James runs around the paddock like an angry dwarf picking fights with whoever is to hand and ranting on Twitter about drivers and fans etc etc....but he not a President of the BRCC or whatever it is, or the face of KX Academy....thats a big difference, also Chris James is just taken with a pinch of salt, yet Jasons stuff gets printed and around the globe even. So imagine some folks will see what Plato says about Arron Smith and i COULD affect Smiths future in motorsport, Plato basically said 'he shouldnt have a race license' 'should be banned' and 'either cant drive, or was asked to take me out of race'.......
Those words by Jason could cost Arron a future, i mean Jason Plato carries alot of clout. People sadly listen to all he says and some take it as gospel....

all im saying...he SHOULD be more responsible than Chris James when he shoots his mouth off....
In fact i wonder what the people who love Plato think of Chris James? Cause if the official BTCC forum is anything to go by Chris James is HATED, yet he says no worse than Jason...so is it cuase Jason is talented driver he's allowed to talk rubbish about fellow drivers..?

ALSO...dont forget Jason slagged of 'pretend drivers' and 'pay drivers'.....Andy Neate pays to drive..650k in fact per season.......is it proffesional to slag off your own team 'mate'.?

I'm just some mouthy bloke on a pointless forum getting stuff off my chest, if Plato wants to trawl internet finding out negative posts about himself then fine, there is a MASSIVE difference between me slagging off Plato, or 'pay drivers' etc etc to Plato slagging off drivers via twitter or such...a massive difference.
I mean he has to line up on the grid against them....he has wound up so many of his fellow drivers, all the pay for drivers, Matt Neal, Arron, Collard....its a wonder he makes the first corner without being punted off every race!
Certainly no one will be lining up to help him out too much in last few rounds...maybe not even NEATE...

Y'Know, In amongst the undoubted ranting, the man's got a point or two.

Not least that as a member (let alone a director) of the BRDC and the "face" of KX academy JP has a responsible position within the sport and lot of visibility outside it. Like it or not he's a role model and if I had a kid in (say) Ginetta Juniors I'd be a little worried if they took JP as the definitive example of how to behave, in or out of the car and I don't think some of his antics would be entirely helpful if (say) I was trying to persuade a concerned parent (or grandparent, or whatever) that Karting was a safe, healthy pursuit for a youngster...

I'm not quoting all of the stupid in this thread because I can't be arsed.

Plato claiming that he was deliberately taken out was a stupid comment, although I doubt he put half as much thought into as you have. Something to think about.

I'm not actually a Plato fan, I'd rather see someone who isn't in a Honda/MG win.

"The public head of X isn't perfect" really is a shocker though.

I not going to get involved in the argument on whether Jason is a god or the devil but you must realise that BTCC is not regulated by the MSA the same way other championships are. If you have a blue book, you will know this. This allows all the drivers to drive slightly differently than if they were in another championship. Not all drivers wish to use this or have the budget to keep repairing their cars. Good racing is evident all over the UK under the normal rules, so I think Mr Gow should lose the right to this special dispensation. This will go some way to solving the problems. The drivers should be thinking, "can I overtake?", rather than, "can I afford a front bumper to get by him?".
I am friends with people within the KX academy and I can assure you that Jason doesn't teach them to knock people off or bad mouth people in public. You have to realise there is an element of pantomime in the BTCC.

It's completely irrelevant what Plato teaches the few kids that manage to get a place at his academy, most people don't attend it so their only example of how a top touring car driver behaves is what they see on TV and in the media, which is the point people are trying to make.

Plato's skill as a driver is not in dispute, but his role at the top of the sport and the way he conducts himself seems, to some of us at least to be less than we'd expect of such a prominent and admired sportsman.

But I agree on your first point. Touring cars have been a pantomime for a while now - it adds little for the genuine race fan, but I can see how it broadens the appeal and creates popularity, you've only to see the crowds at a meeting compared to a club event to see the mass appeal it has.

While it might be healthy for the BTCC, I'm not so sure it serves the rest of the sport so well however.
I've long argued that the BTCC ought to be held to the same rules as the rest of us - having a novice trying to run me into the tyre stacks at Croft claiming he "had the line" despite me having the track position, then subsequently admitting that he'd seen that kind of shoving in the BTCC led me to think that the the man who chases viewing figures for his pet pantomime series probably shouldn't also head the sport's governing body.

Seems like as long as the viewers are tuning in then nothing will change however.
