Stuff about older driver being beefcakes.
I'm not sure lightweight vs heavyweight mens anything driving wise. I don't think anyone would suggest that modern drivers fitness wise are below that of the older drivers. Fitness regimes, diet, etc, will all play a part, and looking 'beefy' does not denote either strength, or stamina. A modern driver would, I reckon, be able to drive longer, harder, and with greater G than a Mansell, Hunt, Surtees, or Fangio. Size doesn't have anything to do with it.

In my books, Mansell, Hunt, Surtees even Fangio are modern drivers. Look at the PreWW2 cars and their drivers.

In some circumstances, size matters.

Vettel is a modern-day Jimmy Clark...
Nowhere near mate.

Jimmy was head and shoulders above all the other drivers at his time , and they all acknowledged that.

All except perhaps Dan Gurney, and Jimmy acknowledged him as an equal.

I dont think any of the best rated drivers of today (Hammy and Alonso+ add your own) would agree on Fingers being better than them.

Why? What forces did they undertake that modern driver do not? Acceleration, and braking G is stronger now, as is cornering G. The only thing I can think that would be an issue was the steering wheel and it being a hefty old bugger back then.

Why are people have discussions about drivers in the racing we see now? For at least the last 10 years, probably more, the person in the best car wins.

I wouldn't say Renault in 2005/006 was the best car..in 2005 McLaren won 10 out of 19 races, in 2006 Ferrari won 9 out of 18
