BBC Sport reports that the FIA have stated there is no case to answer and that no illegal moves took place. Job sorted - F1 lives again.
It would have been such a BIG mistake to have a post mortem on the WDC result which could only have discredited F1 and Ferrari.
...why Ferrari? It would have been such a BIG mistake to have a post mortem on the WDC result which could only have discredited F1 and Ferrari.

Had it been proven that he'd overtaken under yellows (therefor not respecting them) it should be the marshalls that protest (or the clark of the course on their behalf), not another driver/team.

Really? Hamilton driving the quickest car and Alonso #1 driver in a top 3 team?
Surely they have only done what is expected?
Where does expectation come into someone "shining brighter"?Surely they have only done what is expected?
They did a fantastic job, because they're fantastic at their job, which means people expect them to do fantastically, which they did.
Or does someone only "shine" when they're a st driver who has a good race?
I'm not sure if anyone else noticed, have skim read all above, but in Q3 when they did the split screen on Alonso's and Vettel's best timed lap, Alonso's was completely off the track around the middle sector somewhere. Can't find footage now to prove it. So if the rules were applied this lap should have been discounted and he would have started 10th or at least 9th after PM's naughty boy penalty! This may have made no difference in the end the way the race went. Ferrari are masters at finding something on anyone else while appearing to be 'angels'

The most important benefit to SV winning in Brazil was that after 12 months the ork toothed, hobbit Horner become 5% less dull and unimaginative by adding the word 'triple' to his conversational repertoire.
Spot on! "after 12 months the ork toothed, hobbit Horner become 5% less dull and unimaginative by adding the word 'triple' to his conversational repertoire"Beautifully put!

Hamilton and Alonso shone out brighter than all others this year; this period of F1 is going to go down as one of those where a different story emerges depending on whether you actually watched it, or just look back into the statistics of the history books.
You watch the Red Bull and its like watching someone play Gran Turismo, the inputs are so linear, straightforward and correctional steer is not required 99% of the time. It's such an easy looking car to drive, and as a bonus it can achieve pole positions with its drivers missing 4 or 5 apexes on their fastest lap.
Then you compare that with how the Ferrari was for most of the year, which seemed like it was trying to kill its driver, and the absolute ragged edge that Hamilton was able to put the McLaren on so many times.
In the end it all came down to luck, Vettel getting out of a very serious incident which he had got himself into in Interlagos with miraculously no terminal damage on the car.
That said, I don't like changing the results of races after the fact.

Once Newey got the down force working properly on the Red Bull Vettel was able to dominate again.

Here's a quick question...
Would you rather the FIA proved that a rule-break occurred, but then let it go because it was the last race of the season and people had accepted Vettel as champion?
Brazil was a single race, rules should be applied consistently over every race from Australia onwards. The sport has a far bigger problem if they brush it under the carpet purely because it happened in Brazil.
People have been quick to criticise Ferrari over this, but they haven't and don't need to do anything. The FIA have a duty to investigate regardless.
First post and spot on. The video shows him overtaking under 2 yellows and then slotting in just before the green, so depends on where the zones are.Would you rather the FIA proved that a rule-break occurred, but then let it go because it was the last race of the season and people had accepted Vettel as champion?

Sadly (IMHO as wpuld have liked Ferrari to win) Ferrari have reacted too late in this (as Bernie has implied) ie if they had challenged at that moment it could have been investigated, a 20-sec penalty given and the race continued to a final result. As Dan stated, Vettel has been very very lucky in the 2nd half of the season (2 DNFs for Alonso through being taken out v DNF for Vettel through RB car failure) and the last 2 races with pace cars allowing him to catch up etc.
Ferrari need to get their wind tunnel v car calibration correct and come out with an equal or better package IMO - since I believe Alonso is the better racer than Vettel at the moment and with Hamilton in the boondocks for 2013 we need someone to challenge RB

Ah... I misunderstood your original post. Interesting blog from Darren Heath
