Ogier head and shoulders better than anyone else but great results for Meeke and Evans

Great to see live coverage again on BT Sport but not sure a night stage was the best one to choose - couldn't see anything!

Looking forward to Sweden already though
Agree with all of that. The first run over the Turini would've been better. Still, we should be glad there was a live stage, this time last year the only way I could watch the Monte was by watching a Youtube video at the end of each day ! Progress indeed !
Brilliant result - really enjoyed all the TV coverage. The first live run shown from 2.30 was very good - so wet and great to see the cars pushing. Night stages are never the best to watch, even when on events - but the Monte had already ready been agreed when Red Bull Media's identaformat was released. They want all powers stages at Midday, being televised in daylight.

REALLY looking forward to Sweden - hope Ostberg, Latvala & Hirv can take on Ogier. Be good to see if Evans and Meeke can get some more points. I know it's a while off, but I'm really looking forward to the second half of the season - when all the changes will settle down and Meeke especially will know the events, so may have a chance of getting a win. Ogier seems pretty nie on impossible to beat, but maybe Meeke can, who knows. Great start to the season. Bring on Sweden.

Looks like motors tv are doing a eurosport and not showing the rally great.
Yup. After watching some breaking bad, my wife went up to bed and I got comfy on the sofa to watch day 3's highlights I thought I had recorded.

Ended up with some crappy crash program. Luckily it is shown plenty of times on motors TV. Set to record just after midnight now....

Motors TV couldn't be arsed to show at the scheduled 10:35 slot and the 0:10 slot has switched to the Autosports show halfway through after the ad break mad The channel is a fking shambles.

God only knows what happened there (maybe some kind of rights dispute?) but at least they showed it this morning and no doubt will repeat it tonight as well. Brilliant result for Meeke and seriously somebody needs to give Brian B a proper drive, the man clearly has the right stuff.

The last stage wasn't til about 8. Not sure how they could have got a programme finished and aired for 10.30.

Still not seen it. frown

That is the Rally Monte - Wrap Up programme according to the Sky TV guide.... I gave up with IRC when it was on Eurosports as they were always changing the scheduling without warning so I got only part or none of it!

Technical problems said the Motors TV head of programming. You've got to remember they just take the programme that is given to them.

18 WRC cars for Sweden and some interesting names added to the norm

You would hope Ostberg, Hirvonen and Latvala will show enough speed to challenge Ogier

Is that Kris's brother? smile

Brilliant drive by Kris. Apart from shakedown and the Col de Turini 1 he never looked that quick, but it was nice to see some consistancy from him. From what I have heard he coasted down the 2nd run of the Col de Turini as the car was over heating from a blocked rad. I would like to think I played my part in his podium by shining my head torch on the boot pinsfor Paul Nagle, so he could see what he was doing when we saw them on the road section hehe

Have you got your Team Kris overalls ordered?

Turns out the Motors TV program last night was Day 3's highlights. smile

That was a really good start to the season - I want to see WRC cars struggling, not just the fastest driver in the best car winning - at least Ogier had a bit of a struggle - he really did his credibility no harm.

All we need now is a blister arched 2.0T 4wd Polo R and WRC is ready to take off again. Hopefully Hyundai might be brave enough to do something similar smile

Hyundai have actually been talking about road versions already... hopefully they follow through on the talk.

Too expensive to produce ‘Homologation specials’ – which is why the WRCar formula was brought in in 1997, at the request of the Manufacturers. It’s best to think of the WRCars as Prototypes, just like F1/ LMP cars.

Actually, at the Autosport show a few weeks ago, Dave Richards was interviewed; he reckoned the problem with the WRC was the cars. Whereas, in GT Racing it’s not. He said the cars in GT racing are aspirational; I;e, work hard, a lottery win, etc you will go and buy one of them. You won’t rush down and buy a Fiesta ST, Polo R, DS3, i20, etc

I don’t think the current cars are too bad – nothing a bit more power wouldn’t solve – and maybe a bit louder.

As I said a few days ago - I think the cars are from the wrong class - they should be Golf sized - I think the majority of people who watch WRC are more likely to relate to the cars of that size - I've never heard my peers saying, "Nice car the Polo", but they all own or would like a Golf Gti, Focus ST, Audi S3 etc - these are the cars they buy anyway - but supporting "your" team is a nice add.

In the 90s the BTCC didn't run any aspirational cars and that didn't do the sales figures any harm - I believe they used to say Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday, or summat like that.

I also find it strange that Audi, who has the Quattro 4WD system as a major selling point don't do any form of rally any more.
