Looking forward to next week, will be mega tight.
Heres an update pulled from the web on sactions from last week:
Crew members from both the 24 (Gordon) and 5 (Kahne) teams also drew sanctions. Hendrick crewman Jeremy Fuller (No. 5 team) along with Dwayne Doucette and Jason Ingle (No. 24 team) were each fined $25,000 and suspended for the next six NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship points races. All three were found to be in violation of actions detrimental to stock car racing and a behavioral penalty for being involved in a post-race altercation with a driver on pit road.
Additionally, Dean Mozingo -- a crewmember for the No. 24 team -- was fined $10,000 and suspended through the next three Sprint Cup Series championship points races for the same violations.

This is the last elimination round in the chase, four drivers will be eliminated this weekend, the other four go in to Homestead with a chance to win the title.

Trucks run tonight (Friday) at about 12:45am. Matt Crafton leads Ryan Blaney by 25 points, Darrell Wallace is another 21 points behind in third and Jonny Sauter 13 points behind him in 4th.
Nationwide is Live Saturday at 9:30pm on MotorsTV. Chase Elliot was crowned champion at Phoenix, making history as the youngest ever winner of a national championship.
Cup is live Sunday at 6pm on Premier Sports. Kenesth, Gordon, Keselowski and Edwards were all eliminated at Phoenix, so our champion will be Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin or Ryan Newman. Whoever crosses the finish line first wins the championship.
Harvick has already started the trash talk by taking swipes at Logano during press conferences - its pretty clear he'll be fighting dirty for the title.
Of the contenders, Harvick has the best average finish at 8.1, despite never winning. Hamlin is next up, his two wins here give him at average finish of 11.2, neither Newmand or Logano have won here, with avg. finishes of 17 and 20.8 respectively.
Debate is still raging over this chase format, the chase was introduced in 2004 after Kenseth won the 2003 season despite only winning one race. 10 years later the knock-out rule chase has certainly caused a lot of excitement and tension, given incidents at Texas and Charlotte maybe too much tension! yet here we are with Ryan Newman in with a chance of winning it, despite not winning any races at all.
In other news we bid farewell to Marcus Ambrose who leaves the series to return to Australia, I understand he'll be in a V8 Supercar before the year is out.
Carl Edwards is running his last race for RFR, his replacement Trevor Bayne will run his last race for Woods Brothers.
Best wishes also to the legendary AJ Foyt who is recovering from triple bypass surgery.

If nothing else it should be a pretty tense race for the chasers, but don't think for a moment Gordon, Johnson and the ever present Larson will be letting those boys have it all their own way - they'll be battling for the win too. Should be a good one!

Well, now its all done and dusted, what do we think of the chase format? At least we got 4 drivers going for instead of maybe 2 with one only needing to finish in the top 20 or so.
But what if Newman won it? how unfair would that have been and if there were 1 more GWC the chances are it would have been all turned on its head.
At least we were saved the embarrassment of a winners circle for a race winner being overshadowed and ignored by the series winner celebrations.
Me? I think by chance it worked out this year. emphasis on the By chance bit..... maybe would not have been so great if none of the contenders were challenging for the win and were lost in the midfield somewhere.

It can't be denied that the new format wound up the tension, particularly in the elimination races. While I'm not a fan of the whole post-season thing that is so big in America and prefer the way the Nationwide championship is scored, I like this iteration of the chase better than previous ones.
I'd be happy if they awarded the championship to the driver that has scored the most points over all 36 races so it reflects performance across the whole season, but is seems unlikely that format will ever be bought back - it was gone in cup before I started watching NASCAR.
