Darlington this weekend,
Nationwide run tonight, green flag about 1:15am Suaturday morning. MotortsTV are showing it on delay at 9pm Saturday.
Cup run Saturday night, 11:45pm green flag, Premier Sports are live from 11:30pm.
Here comes the important bit - NO RAIN!! NONE! well, so far anyway. The forecasts are looking very good.
Very little news around, so a quick bit of history on Darlington..
Length 1.366 miles
Turns 1 and 2: 25°
Turns 3 and 4: 23°
Front Straight: 3°
Back Straight: 2°
Its one of NASCAR's oldest tracks, built in 1949 by a retired racer its egg shape was famously caused by the need to avoid a pond that the landowner specifically wanted to keep.
Originally what is now the front stretch was the back stretch, it was changed around ten years ago and the corners renumbered.
The opening race in 1950 was the Southern 500, the first 500 mile race in NASCAR. Indy car Johnny Mantz, despite starting last won the race.
The start of the 1950 race:
The track was the scene of Darrel Waltrip's last Cup win in 1992. Jeff Gordon tops the list with 5 wins here, tied with Cale Yarborough.
Here's Cale (in the Woods #21) at the start of the 1968 race alongside Charlie Glotzbach in the #6 Dodge, note the picture is tagged incorrectly, LeeRoy Yarborough did drive for Junior Johnson, but he was in the #98 car, which was a Ford, he started 4th.

So about about this Elliot kid then..
He and Larson are making Stenhouse / Patrick / Bayne look a bit mediocre aren't they.
Forgot to mention the Haas F1 thing. That will be interesting. From what I read the idea is the team will be based in South Carolina, which makes sense as they have lots of engineering stuff there, Haas has one of the biggest machine shops in motorsport I believe. However, I do think they will need some sort of base in Europe, probably here to operate from. I wonder if he's talking to Mercedes about taking over the McLaren engine supply when they depart for Honda ?

....And we're back!
Richmond this weekend, Cup & NNS.
NNS run at 12:15am our time Saturday morning, MotorsTV are live from 11:30pm tonight.
Cup run at 12:15am Sunday morning, Premier Sports are live from 11:30pm Saturday.
A couple of big news stories:
Swan Racing are no more, they've basically run out of money. The #26 car and Cole Whitt have moved to BK Racing, the #30 car has been taken on by Xxxtreme Motorsport, alas Parker Kligerman is not going with the car, it will be driven by JJ Yeley and will be re-numbered to #44 at Talladega.
Kligerman remains under contract with Swan and says he has had contract from other cup teams so hopefully he'll find a spot soon.
NASCAR plan to announce regulation changes for 2015 by the All Star race. You'll recall there has been talk about dropping engine power, it seems this will now be done in conjunction with aero and tire changes.
Jr put this picture up on his twitter account, its the Texas car, off to live with Montoyas jet crash car (and various other wrecks) on his estate

At the time of writing Larson is quickest in practice!

Talladega this weekend!
No Trucks
NNS run Saturday, MotorsTV are live from 8pm
Cup run Sunday, Premier Sports are live from 5:30pm
News:
Lock up your jet driers, Montoya is back! well, for a few races at least. Penske have announced he'll run a third driver with JPM driving (probably the #12). He will run at Michigan on June 15th and the brickyard 400 at Indy on July 27th.
Talladega have renamed the back stretch as "The Alabama Gang Super Stretch" to acknowledge the history of drivers from the state.
A bunch of new sponsors and liveries this weekend, so keep your eye out for your favourite drivers!
Also those who follow the truck series may like to tune in for the Nationwide race as Darrell "Bubba" Wallace will be in the #20 JGR car. Wallace has four previous starts in NNS, 3 top 10s and one 12th place. I wonder if this means we could see him move up next year ?

Apologies for the late posting..
Kansas this weekend.
Trucks ran last night
Nationwide have a week off
Cup run midnight tonight (Saturday), Premier Sports coverage starts at midnight.
Seems Dogecoin has brought quite a few new fans to the sport, kind of the reverse of what sponsorship is meant to do I guess ?
Bowyer, crew chief Brian Pattie and sponsor 5 hour energy have signed a 3 year extension with MWR. Kansas is his 300th Cup start and his home race, bizarrely his mother has also been selected to wave the green flag to start the race.
Meantime Biffle is trying to close in on a contract extension at Rousch.
Its rumoured that Petty Motorsports are considering a switch to Toyota. Their contract with Ford expires at the end of the year and its believed the team met with TRD at Richmond to discuss the move.
The #48 team are still looking for their first win of the season, as is the #24 team although they've had consistent finishes to leave Gordon leading the championship. Can one of them get it done at Kansas and become the 9th winner this season ?
