So it seems that from Thursday, Motors TV will be available through Freeview; https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1015223001...

However, it seems you need an internet connected TV or box. Anyone know if you can also receive it through Virgin Media or a laptop? I don't have a smart TV so it looks like I might have to buy another piece of hardware to be able to watch it. can anyone explain in simple terms what I need to do to be able to watch it? Thanks!!

I am all for Motor and car programes - but Motors TV has been, ermm pants for years.

I dont think I've seen it for about a year.

They used have live DTM etc, but they dont actually have anything worth watching.

Maybe Aussie V8 highlights?

Still - good to know!

They show the WEC and ELMS races with RLM commentary (apart from Le Mans). Makes it worthwhile for me.

Reading through, Youview doesn't work with it annoyingly. Any more motorsport coverage is better than nothing.

So far as a channel it's actually been quite good this year. 'Despite' a whole heap of wonderful classic MotoGP re-run programs on at the moment (Rainey vs Schwantz!!!), I caught their coverage of the Northwest Stages rally the other day - (the army crew Land Rover was insane!) and I could swear it was Motors TV that ran some coverage of an historic in Belgium this weekend.

It was fantastic in terms of commentary - obviously the pictures were only of a couple of sections of the rally, but the commentators were waxing-lyrical over all the cars - lot's of classic Mantas, Porches, Peugeots, Citroens, Audis etc - all a delight to listen to, and their knowledge of the BHP and torque figures along side comments like 'and here we have Jimmy McRae's Manta from xxxx - glorious - just listen to that... but they really should put it back in Rothmans livery' etc etc etc.

There's been some cracking programs on Motors TV recently - I often stick it on for a bit of background entertainment.

I think it's probably that they aren't at the broadcasting cutting edge of the likes of Sky in terms of HD/super-slo-mo/access-all-areas coverage, and they have nothing to beat the rally coverage that WRC-TV and Channel4 were pumping out about 10 years ago.

Quite a lot of their coverage reminds me of the stuff we used to get on World Of Sport when I was a nipper, you know, all filmed from a distance but you could almost be there.

They had a cracking program on how to drive on ice last week, and their coverage of Motor Sport in general is second to none - Enduro, Powerboats so much stuff - it's just not high profile stuff - if Motors TV went bust and off air I'd be disappointed.

The main problem with Motors TV is that I've seen higher definition on a Roman mosaic.
Also it's one of the worst culprits for having louder adverts than the programme was.....

....But it's still my favourite and most watched channel. Coming to Freeview will mean the end of my Sky package! Thanks Motors TV!

I like the NZ Jet sprinting and V8 supercars on it. I think they show Irish tarmac rallying too which is good fun to watch.

Also, their actual programmes are at all different volumes.

Thats an idea, I have a PS3 and an Xbox. It would be really handy if I could watch it through either of those. Anyone know for sure?

This.

It really does have the worst picture quality out there. On a decent sized screen it is like watching a YouTube clip over dialup and compared to Sky Sports and Eurosport HD channels it is utterly demoralising.

They normally show a few live club racing day throughout the year which is always filled with close action packed races. They had a live classic rally event in Belgium last week normally show a lot of club racing throughout the uk. Sports car racing from brit gt/ blancpain series to wec.
A channel purely for motorsport yet people still moan about it ffs as for not showing dtm good most boring series going rather watch f1, infact f1 has more overtaking than dtm.

The entire live days from Donington and other circuits are very good as well. You can't fault their exposure of club level racing.

Motors is fantastic, the stuff it covers would never be shown anywhere else, I live in constant fear of it closing down, adverts from Opie Oils and dog charities can't bring in much cash. I suspect someone loses a lot of money on it.

I think at least some of the more obscure stuff they show pays the channel to broadcast it, rather than the other way round.

I watch it a lot, mostly for the WEC and NASCAR Nationwide series.

Its good for WEC but I rather watch it on Eurosport HD with the volume down and RLM commentary streaming.

While it may not have the best quality picture or whatever, I can deal with that since I'm coming from having no coverage of WEC or V8's etc..

What I would like to know is, in simple terms, how can I receive it?

I have the basic Virgin media package, no TV aerial signal (hence Virgin media) A Non-Smart TV, an Xbox 360 a laptop and a PS3. Will any of that enable me to receive Motors or will I need another piece of hardware? If so, what?

Thanks, Olly
