Awesome feature race today.

Such a simple format:-
- 40-ish laps.
- 1 set of tyre fast but good for 15 laps.
- 1 set of tyre slow but good for 25 laps.
- You must use both tyres, but in any order.
- Race.

If the F1 German GP has even half as much action at the GP2 feature race, I'll happily take that.

Both races this weekend have been fantastic.

Seriously impressed by the guys starting on slicks in todays race, circuit was absolutely drenched! Not too sure what the safety car came out for though when Vandoorne pitted, other than to close the pack together.

Missed the sprint race, but yesterday's feature race was brilliant.

I've been watching GP2 since the second season when some bloke called Lewis Hamilton won it. Always interesting to guess who the talent is likely to be for the future. Not always the drivers winning either as it has taken some of them years to get anywhere close to the front. GP3 is worth watching too. Particularly since some drivers are now skipping GP2 (Bottas and Kivyat).

Always watch the GP2 races - in part because we support one of the drivers and fellow PHer Adrian Quaife-Hobbs and it's also provides the best racing of the weekend.

AQ-H is a PHer?

I've been following GP2 and GP3 since they became intended feeder series to F1 (from the start). SkyF1 has made it much easier to follow lately too, than trying to find broadcasts on MotorsTV or internet streams etc.

I'm waiting for GP1, where F1 drivers all race in equal cars on each F1 weekend. wink

I have been following Gp2 pretty much since it started, the racing is generally fantastic! Ok you get the odd idiot like Cecotto (Who seemingly has calmed a touch this year) and Canamasas, but most can race hard and fair!

Oh and the cars still make a proper noise!

I can't really get into Gp3 for some reason. Maybe when I do bother to watch I just pick the boring races! hehe

Adrian's track view
The Hungaroring is a very unique track where it has the lowest average speed of any non street circuit of the year this presents a different challenge for us. It is very important to get into a good flow of the track as one corner leads into another. On top of this the ambient and track temperatures are normally very high making it one of the most physical tracks of the year.

Another cracking race in GP2
Adrian had a terribly qualifying session and started 22nd on the grid.
With some excellent racing and perfect strategy he finished 3rd. First podium on the year and hopefully the start of a roll.

Well, it didn't look that way from trackside in all honesty. He was actually nowhere as usual and, like the rest of the podium, lucked into a good result because of the safety cars.

I'm not here to defend Adrian but I can give you a little insight into GP2

Although the cars are more or less equal, unless you are with DAMS or Carlin then you aren't going win the championship. Those teams are so far ahead in their setup that they have a big advantage. It does come down to having the perfect setup as there is no testing and you only get that FP1 session on a Friday. In previous years Russian Time, ART, and Rapax have had good years but there's been reasons behind that, that I can't comment directly on.

GP2 provides what I think is the best single seater racing you'll see on TV but it's not the level playing field that it might appear to be.

Palmer continues his "finishing every race in the points" run.

With 4 rounds and 8 races to go he's only 9 points at the moment behind Fabio Leimer's 2013 Championship winning total.

Ps. no one has finished every race in the points -before yet.

And Palmers points scoring run came to an end at Spa after comments from FourWheelDrift on the Pistonheads forum wink

I agree that DAMS have been a force in GP2 for years, but Carlin are very much the new boys and have yet to win the Drivers/Teams Championship.
Racing Engineering have also been a considerable force for several seasons and having spent a few years around the GP2 paddock, the teams are a bit more equal than you suggest - drivers are very much a major factor. Palmer was always nailed on this year, with four years of experience and DAMS behind him.

No different to F3...some teams in there whose name totally overwhelms their ability and if you get placed with them you're stuffed....interested In Russian Time comment...I think a lot of their success was down to Sam not to some kind of other advantage, but would love to know more :-) .Mitch has finally got his act together too...just wonder how long the funding will last foe him...Giltrap has supported him for a long time now.

I have been very impressed with Jolyon this year. He can pedal a car. Nasr gets on my tits.

In short, GP2 is great this year!

Looks like you guys know your stuff as well smile

GP2 is a funny series. It's so political - everything is controlled by Bernie (of course). You never hear of technical infringements, everything is just handled internally. Some of that explains certain drivers pace that suddenly disappears wink Never any controversy - though the GP2 steward at the moment seems to need some lessons in racing. Apparently she was appointed with no experience of motor racing ?

I'd love to drive one. Only driven one of a race sim and that was pretty awesome.

Scrappy race for Palmer. Didn't have the car he normally has under him today.

Championships are made from results in bad cars.

Ps. GP3 race was mental, mental start, farcical finish but great for GB.
