No British rally championship for 2015 ?
Discussion
Now this maybe old news and already discussed on here ? . but i came across this news while seaching for info on my local rally (sunseeker, now rallye dorest)
Its appears rallye dorset is now cancelled and no Brc in 2015 either .
Quote from the website : "A BRC working group will be created as soon as possible to consider the key issues to be resolved around the revised championship, including vehicles, class structure and the status of events. It is anticipated that further announcements will be made in due course and the group has set a target to resolve all major points before the end of the year to give competitors the earliest possible indications of the future direction of Britain’s premier rally championship."
rest of the info can be found here www.rallyedorset.co.uk/
Its seems rallying as a hole is just going from bad to worse !!

Its not that surprising really, its probably a good idea that they go away for a bit and think about what they want to achieve.
It used to be the pinnacle of British rallying, were as it now feels like a purpose built feeder series for the ERC/WRC. The MSA tarmac championship for one seems far more interesting/exciting than the BRC.
At least rallying in Britain continues fairly uneffected, especially if all you get is a dose on Motors TV!

Its interesting to see the effect of different regulation changes on championships, though obviously there is more to it than just that when comparing between different countries.
IIRC (correct me if I'm wrong) the BRC banned the most interesting cars because they were scratch-built, and then limited the championship solely to fairly slow Fwd hatches? And it withered and died.
In contrast, the NZRC loosened their regs from Group-N only to include an open class with older Group-A type cars, modified Group-N based cars similar to R4 spec, and now there are a few WRC-inspired home-built weapons as well. And due to being more spectacular and interesting it seems to have the most competitors and public interest its had in years. There are still classic and slower classes as well, its not all or nothing.
Australia is now looking at copying the NZ formula and would like to end up with a set of consistent Australasian regs to allow drivers to run the same cars in ARC.
Perhaps the BRC would see more success with a similar approach?

It might actually help if they knew what the BRC was for. From there you can start moving forward. Who is your ‘customer’? What cars are allowed? What is the format? 1-2 days, etc
Since the glorious F2 era of 1996-2000 the BRC has stumbled. WRCars, Gp N cars, FWD R2/R3’s….
The current BTRDA series is popular, but these are one day events over about 45 miles. Surely the ‘Pinnacle’ of British Rallying should be 2 day over 120+ miles?? The costs of using the forests is expensive – another reason for the low BRC entries.

So 2 days with 50-60 forest miles and 50-60 tarmac miles. This would require some motor clubs to pool dates, resources etc but I think a 5-6 weekend series using all the UK could be the answer. As a suggestion
The Jim Clark Memorial - Current tarmac plus the forests of the Borders and Ayrshire
NE England - Otterburn and Kielder
The Welsh - Eppynt and associate nearby forests (Crychan, Hafren etc.)
The Ulster - Mainly 2 days of Tarmac
The Cambrian - Expanded to include the Orme and other available tarmac (possibly a Saturday of Stately home / safari park stages in Shropshire / Cheshire)
The Sunseeker - Start in Wilts and work down the map to finish with the trad stages as the 2nd day
Just shooting from the hip here but with a supporting Historic category and a junior category this could be made to work

Two in Wales and none in Yorkshire? Hmm..living half a mile from a former BRC and RAC forest stage can I put in a plea for Dalby, Wykeham , Cropton etc ? As a suggestion

The demise of rallying is so sad; still take in Malcolm Wilson and Riponian but it is a pale shadow of the glory days I was lucky enough to watch- S4 through Stang , Mikkola in Escort and the mighty Sport Quattros
