Why don't they just accept viewers like the contact aspect, so produce stronger cars that can take a hit or two.
I invite you to stand trackside for an event or two. Not somewhere wossie like Silverstone but a proper place like Hollywood at Donington, Riches, Bombhole or Coram at Sent, almost any corner at Coombe, I could go on... and say that.In a non contact sport I reckon it's about one a year on average I have to run or get splattered.
I take it your a marshal , i could invite you to a bsb event and not only do we have to run but the rider isn't even on the bike, at least you have a driver attempting to miss you.
My point is btcc is at a stage where on one hand it want's to be a proper non contact race series but on the other they know what there audience wants, hence why certain drivers get away with punting others out the way, now the bigger teams can afford the repair bills the smaller teams less so, just be done with it and bolster the cars up so they can take the hits.

The problem is that the BTCC is rightly or wrongly one of the premier series. People see Plato and Neal knock yet another car into the long grass, without a murmur, and they think that this is the way to do it. Thus it feeds down to the driving standards elsewhere.
FWIW I drop in on the BTCC to see the programme as much as to see the races. My heart is with BGT/BES/LM, and to a degree F1, although I love all motorsport. I do think that bangers should stay at Foxhole or Yarmouth Stadium.
I honestly don't think BTCC is a premier series, there are a few like Darren Turner & Alex Macdowell that have moved on and done well for themselves but I think they are the exception to the rule.FWIW I drop in on the BTCC to see the programme as much as to see the races. Neal, Plato etc like being big fish in a small pond. Nothing wrong with that I guess but unless you do move on quickly I think BTCC is a dead end.
the btcc is for the tv and fans, it isnt great racing, rarely are any overtakes done with no contact but you have to respect alan gow, he has turned it into the biggest national series in the uk. the crowds are massive, the grids are full and the tv coverage is amazing. I admit the driving standards are crap at times and like a few others running for my life is the norm while marshalling, even at club level some of the moves are crazy and indeed referred to as a touring car move. Even watching on tv it isnt nice to see a mate having to run for it as us marshals are a bloody close bunch. in a lot of cases you will work with someone over a weekend, add them as a friend on facebook and remain mates for years
i resent the keystone cops wisecracks about the tordoff startline incident, clearly the car dropped its sump and coolant in 1 place and it was quite a lot of fluid and imo the team did a good job, you cant blame the marshal for his broom breaking, things like that happen to us all. fact is the bloke carried on and they did a proper job

The advert that ran in the breaks for the final round at Brands Hatch shows how they attempt to sell the series to the average viewer - it's basically a 20-30 second crash reel they're using to promote it.Crafty_ said:
Alan, I was more surprised the marshals hadn't been supplied better equipment than the guy having the tenacity to finish the job.
it is an age old problem at tracks, brooms wear out fast. i know when i was at sillystone for the gp all the brooms we had were new and quite good but I have seen some that were less than useless. one thing that did surprise me was the amount of marbles on the outside at copse, i know silverstone has the "magic mat" sweepers that are towed behind a quad or car and are really effective, at the gp there was squads of 4 doing the sweeping plus road sweepers at various points, really surprised they werent deployed. I know at knockhill we only have 1 "magic mat" and it does the work of a squad of marshals in a fraction of the timeGassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
