I feel really sorry for him, it must have cost him an arm and a leg to get a full season together and he ended up with an utter dog of a car.
It's not like it's a one off though, if you do just a fee minutes of research the Proton has been constantly unreliable...

Why should he have to pay to research? Google's fine.

You have to wonder at what point TOCA say, enough is enough:
http://www.btcccrazy.co.uk/btcc/welch-motorsport-t...

Vital parts for engine reliability upgrade not been delivered, overseas supplier let them down.

Wouldn't be a problem if they just ran a Swindon engine like the other small teams. Wasn't last year's absence also because suppliers couldn't supply?

Are there teams waiting for a grid space?

If not it doesn't make any difference if Welch have paid there entry fee.

Tbh the last 2 years have been a mess for the team an old car that wasn't that good with an extremely poor engine not a good combination. Wouldn't be missed from the grid tbh if they did leave.

To the contrary, as we saw with the introduction of the driver limitations to stop cars being rented to a different cheque book each round, TOCA take the image of the series pretty seriously. All the Protons seem to do is breakdown, hardly fitting in a series of that profile.

I think Dan Welch is a very underrated driver and a top bloke, but as has been mentioned above, the pace deficit of the car is a bit embarrassing now and the frequency that it breaks down due to various issues is not befitting of the BTCC, Welch Motorsport or Dan himself. I would love to see them abandon their self-built engine however I fear they have spent too much money on it to pull the plug.

Put a Toca engine in and with a little development that car with Dan driving will be midfield in no time.

Feel really sorry for Dan his dad and all the team, they are 'A' grade in my book....pity not more like them in btcc.

I took a pal of mine to Donington who hadn't been to btcc before, Dans dad made us very welcome when we dropped in unexpected showing my pal around the cars and getting him to sit in one.....even though they were having a st weekend.

Chin up Dan it'll all come good my friend!!

I'm not sure how many teams are in the queue waiting to take empty slots at the moment, but there are some competitive options waiting in the wings:

The Marc Hynes MG is for sale
I think Ciceley have interest in a second car
Honda have the potential of Jack Clarke with additional sponsorship for a third car.

All three options could have top-ten pace.

Speaking of being competitive, I'll ask the question no one else seems to want to ask.

On a scale of 1/10 how much of a mistake has it been for Andy Jordan to move to the MG this year? If him and Mike and continued to run Eurotech they were supposed to have been running the upgraded engine and aero pack like the fa tory cars this year. Given the fact the MG seems to habe hit it's limit development wise Plato leaving looks like a great move and Jordan's a poor one.

I feel the most sorry for Andy, he's had a carbon copy of my year and it was miserable in more ways than just being stuck in a donkey of a car.

As for the TOCA engine, we tried to get one last year after Snett...

Regarding Andy Jordan, I think the MG has reached the limit of it's potential now so he's hit a bit of a brick wall in terms of performance. I've always assumed that he will be the next Honda works driver, but that's looking a bit distant now.

What I do not really understand with the Welch team is they have had a nightmare time with their engines.I can remember many years ago John Welch in I think was the European rally cross championship being pretty much the best driver and think he was running a Peugeot with something like 6-800 bhp and he used to build the engines himself and was regarded at the time as one if not the best engine guys.I would have thought the engines in a BTCC car with about 320 bhp would be the last of Welch Motorsport problems.

Support Our Paras team to run one car:

http://www.btcc.net/2015/08/07/support-our-paras-r...

“It’s a major disappointment for the team that Max failed to deliver the sponsorship package he had pledged,” team principal Derek Palmer Snr said, “and as a result we have had one of our TOCA BTCC licences cancelled for the remainder of 2015."

Sour grapes from Palmer Snr, he more than anyone knows about losing sponsorship.
