The ITV commentators were saying that Rockingham was not a circuit that suited the Mercedes, but Aiden Moffat achieves P8, .038 off pole!
Hes the next big name future champion for sure now hes has had that podium finish the results should start coming and lets be honest the merc isn't a slow car.less that 1s covering the top 20 cars the good.
Rockingham though can either offer close exciting racing or can be spread out and pretty boring.
Jackson looks good for race 1 again plato will just be doing his best to pick up solid points in all 3 races like Jordan too.
Awesone racing the battle between plato and ingram was the best all year both drivers giving just enough room and huge respect for each other after the race is down. Also shedden drove a good weekend also josh cook again a future champion along with ingram.
Tordoff and Jordan poor weekend from both, going to have to have a perfect weekend at Silverstone for any chance at the title. Turks and neal need to take points away from plato and shedden if not looks like a 2 way fight for it.
Silverstone will be a must win weekend for turks and neal.

Rockingham is an awfully boring track but these historic touring cars are great.
I've driven the track - as used today. It was a fantastic experience. In the car, Turn 1 looks to have a 35 degree bank. It takes some cojones not to lift around there.I was in the south grandstand today, with a few wasps, and the racing from Turn 1 into the Dene hairpin was full on. A great day out.

I have been to Rockingham for the BTCC probably about 7-8 times and think it is great as you can see all the circuit, free open air and covered grandstands, access to the pit area and clean toilets.Compare that to my nearest Circuit Thruxton that I know is a fantastic fast track but the facilities are very poor and you have to pay extra to go to the pits area and pay for the two very old grandstands.
I have also found the racing at Rockingham pretty good with plenty of overtaking particularly at the second corner and the hairpin.
This was the first year I did not arrange accomadation for the Saturday nighs probably as I had been looking forward to going to the Belgium GP so when we got back a couple of weeks ago bought the tickts to Rockingham so was the first time that I drove there and back in the same day.Left Cardiff at 6am with two of my boys and was home by 8.30pm,traffic was good and in and out of the circuit very easily and felt fine doing 170 miles each way.
We had a great time.
I forgot to say it was good to see the historic touring cars at Rockingham yesterday and also saw them last year at Oulton Park.
You cannot really compare them with todays BTCC cars as the manufacturers were involved with cars each costing over £1 million to build, some of the ex GP drivers getting paid over £1 million and team budgets approaching £10 million a year.
These days the cars cost approx £350k to build and all the drivers are pay drivers except five of them.
I am old enough to remember going to the British GP at Silverstone seeing Mansell thrash the opposition and then have the excitement of the BTCC cars as the last race of the day.
Which is best is impossible to say as they were different in many ways but I certainly think todays BTCC is a fantastic series with the three BTCC races, the support races, the circuits and would be difficult to make it better.

We had an awesome weekend at Rockingham courtesy of Simon Belcher, Handy Motorsport & Speedworks.
I have to say that the facilities are amazing, of all the circuits we've visited this was head & shoulders above any in the UK.
Also I would like to add that the welcome we had, particularly from Robb Holland, but also chatting to Nick Hamilton & being camped next to Team Hard, from absolutely everyone could not have been more friendly nor positive & so many people taking the time to chat to Shelby about Ginetta's.
HUGE heads up to a few people, Ollie Jackson for being sooooooooooo nice just pre race & to ALL the Super Tourer teams but particularly the Mazda 323 which sounded just as great as it did at Oulton last year, loving the new livery too!
But most of all to Simon Belcher & all the Handy Motorsport staff

One of my mates has done a lot of work on that car, and it's very local to me. I've been to watch it test at Oulton a couple of times and you're right, it sounds absolutely fantastic.Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
