The comparison to v8 supercars in my mind is quite valid. The btcc and v8s are the biggest motorsport series in their respective countries, and both involve some form of tin top racing. I don't think btcc has to be v8 at all, but the level of fan involvement and excitement is ten fold higher for v8 supercars. And is is with three races a weekend, all far longer than any btcc 20 lap sprint. It will be interesting to see if this continues after both Holden and ford pull their manufacturer support from the series. I just think that the btcc, whilst probably the most successful it has been for a while has a lot to learn. To me at the moment it doesn't have as much creditability for talent as v8 supercars and dtm. By that's just my opinion
Yes, both the biggest tin top racing series in their respective countries. Most notable difference between the two series? The extra zero on the end of the budget required to run a V8 Supercar for a season.Longer races like BTCC ran towards the end of the Super Touring era would be good. Of course, thats ignoring that such a format will add to wear on all components and use at a minimum of another set of tyres every race weekend. So thats adding an extra 1/3 on to the car running costs, roughly.
As for driver credibility etc, well, BTCC had ex-F1 drivers and the like in the Super Touring era. Ford and Holden pull out, lets see if the others stick around. Lot easier to justify 8 figure budgets for motorsport to race against 4 other manufacturers than it is against 2 others. Volvo have already made noises it doesnt fit with their brand image as well.

But Plato still has the Tesco sponsorship which effectively pays his wages.
But does Plato still have Tesco?! Theres been a lot of stuff in the news about Tescos falling profits and, if I remember correctly, something about their head offices being raided due to something illegal to do with money?! This could all spell the end of their sponsorship.Nick Foster announces his retirement from BTCC

Loving the MG in that livery, good move for Jordan and Mike so that he can focus on the classic stuff.
In regards to the whole Tesco/Plato debate, I think a previous poster (forgot the name apologies) may have the possible answers. JPs site (http://brandpilot.co.uk/)says the companies that he works with and recently Merc have been added. A Tesco sponsored A class for 2015?

Whatever you think of Plato (I know he reads this anyway), he is good for the championship.
He finished 2nd last year, and is always there or there abouts.
IF WSR sign Prilaux then I don't see Plato joining the team as well?
Also - what about Turks!
Hope he is still with the BMWs.
If Prilaux does join, he has strong personal sponsor of Crown Plaza and he is a BMW backed driver - so perhaps cash wont be an issue?
