This 100% the car wasn't brilliant but was plagued by the st rml engine once they swapped and got the 2 rds out of the way with low boost It did become more competitive.
With the 2nd year developing the car and a handy driver they should be up there in the top 15.
But they aren't using the Hatch though......With the 2nd year developing the car and a handy driver they should be up there in the top 15.

Anyone else heard the budget spread for this year ?
Im told its £300k to get on the back of the grid to £1.3M for a front running car, WTF this was supposed to be a cost controlled formula!
Some of the budgets have gone stupid, they had started to last year. There's a bit of development going on and with such a tight field teams are finding that the cars need a lot of prep and preventative maintenance to remain competitive than originally believed but not enough to justify the big increases IMHO.Im told its £300k to get on the back of the grid to £1.3M for a front running car, WTF this was supposed to be a cost controlled formula!
Either sponsorship is disappearing or the teams are looking for more profit as they've been scraping a living for too long. I think it's probably a bit of both but some of the new drivers that have come in this year are big in budget and average in track record. I'd consider myself a decent mid-field BTCC runner but I often used to lap one of the new comers a couple of years ago when we were in the same series and arguably I wasn't any more experienced than him at the time.
I do think the overall grid quality is up though. Even the guys running at the back have had success of sorts in other series. And at the front the mixture of young talent against the old guard is fascinating. And once the grid is fully formed I would say there should be 20 top quality drivers, then 5 or so good and then some regular.

Be interesting to see him with a full time drive didn't do to bad on his one off outing in 2013.On other news rotek audi is still in the same workshop in the same state as it left Silverstone at the 2nd to last rd last year. Very sad to see such a nice looking car just sit there in a pile of bits.

Agreed now some of the big teams plans have been announced it does look like a very strong season, new cars and teams, drivers with new cars and teams too big shake up this year. Be interesting to see the last few seats announced and who the drivers get to grips with the new cars.Mopar440 said:

All they bought was the bare shell though, engine, suspension etc will be coming from the hatch. Seems a pointless purchase really.
This opinion is based upon what? You're a race engineer?(Hat off to you if you are!)
Has it been confirmed anywhere Goff is in an MG?

Not all shells are made equal!
Indeed, I here those made of Malaysian steel are are the best I was told by a driver a few years ago (just before the switch to NGTC) that aero was very important, and the Cruze saloon worked a lot better than most of the hatchback models out there due to the airflow over the rear spoiler and screen, so I guess this applies to NGTC as well. The hatch was a marketing thing as Chevrolet thought it would be a bigger seller and were still debating manufacturer support when RML started work on it, but it was never as efficient in terms of aero as the saloon.
As I understand it Jack Goff has a decent budget behind him so a move to MG would be plausible.
