Just an aside on the Motorbase issue, has anyone noticed that Airwaves are running the "normal Focus turns into a BTCC car" advert again? They've just removed the Jackson name from the window rolleyes
It doesn't turn into a full BTCC car, just a blue Focus on Pro Race 1.2 wheels.

Was at Brands today. Great racing all through out the day and a perfect day for it.

But what happened to Plato in the last race? He was working his way up through the field but then seemed to start going backwards. Tyres gone? Mechanical? He seemed to be noticably slower in the second half of that race.
Just got home from the day there as well, lovely day, if a tad cold when the sun hid behind the clouds!!

There was some great racing today - two main observations - the soft tyres appear very fragile, and once they go they go quickly. Plato was going great guns in race 3 until his tyres went off, then he looked hopeless, as did Priaulx in race 1.

As mentioned already, the new ballast does look a little OTT, especially on the reverse grid, it does seem to impact the cars a lot more than previous years. Just out of interest, could there be any link to Plato's race 2 puncture and the extra ballast??

Some of the racing was great today - especially the end of the BTCC race two. Really good day. Looking forward to watching the season develop.

The support races were generally great to watch - especially the Porsche cup, the big grid looks awesome. From where we were sitting the last gasp move in the Ginetta Juniors and Clio's did look more than just rubbing, definitely barging, surprised there were no penalties for those.

ITV spoke to the dunlop man who said Plato's tyre had a stone cause the puncture but then he wouldn't

blame "His" product would he.

I might have mentioned this before but when are Ginetta going to make a Junior car with a bonnet that doesn't

detach at the first opportunity ?

The race cars are all based on the limited edition 'clown car' model.

Apparently it detaches so easily to avoid damaging the A pillar and rest of the car and also discourages bumping into each other. That's what Ginetta say anyway.

That would explain it. Plato was charging and we did make the comment that maybe he'd taken too much out of his tyres in doing so but for them to go off so much and so quickly halfway through the race would suggest they are too fragile. He was lifting so much earlier into Paddock - seems they were absolutely shot.

Those tyres denied us even better racing.

I was surprised in race one with Priaulx soft tyres going off just before half distance and ending up about 13th as I was convinced he would win the race.Same with Plato in the 3rd race he was up to 14th in a few laps and then went backwards and this seam to happen with all teams on the soft tyre.

EXCEPT Honda where it did not seam to make much difference.

Great to see 30 Porsches in the support race however 3 safety cars and I lost count of the amount of incidents!

A great weekend of Motorsport, race 2 has to be my highlight. Shedden isn't my favourite drivee but he pulled off a damn good overtake or 2.

Roll on Donny!

Soft tyres are a bit extreme. But then Plato sodded off a few seconds down the road with 50+ kilos of ballast before he got the puncture. The thinking behind it all might be that things will be swings and roundabouts, and even out over the season with lots of weight and very soft tyres. If the weight settles the Passats and makes them better to drive that could be a fubar from the start though.

BMW are going to be in trouble at the fast tracks, not sure there is much that can be done though, the 1 series doesn't seem the most aerodynamic of cars.

Priaulx explained why the BMW suffered more than expected with the soft tyre by basically saying they are making all their time in the corners and don't have the speed down the straight to keep any advantages gained, so it was almost impossible to defend when the tyres had gone away.

No surprise to hear that drivers will no longer be allowed to do the grid draw..

Only saw the first half of the 3rd race, so looking forward to catching up with yesterdays races later.

That has got to be the biggest embarrassment for the organisers for many years. Austin is crying on his Facebook page for everyone to forgive him, it wasn't really his fault. And all the sycophantic fanboys are patting him on the shoulder and saying "There, there, you're really a good boy."

I bet his sponsors are unimpressed with such unprofessional conduct.

But the fact that he was still allowed to stay on pole beggars belief.

He stayed on pole because Alan Gower did another draw and he pulled out no 10 again by luck

I'm fully aware of that. That's the bit that beggars belief. Why was Austin's ball.....

...still in the draw?

Lets be honest he isn't the first to do it gio did it last year at one meeting to do the same thing. Also its not the worst thing a btcc driver has done. He realised it was wrong and have said he's sorry for what he's done.

Gow has now said no drivers or members releated to teams will draw the number.

The same thing?

That quite a strong accusation! Are you saying that Fabrizio cheated in the same way that Austin did, or that he simply drew "his own" ball?

It looked liked the same thing Austin did and a few others have picked up on it as well. Its not a hard thing to have a quick look before picking your number up as Austin proved. Hopefully now with drivers not drawing the balls this wont happen again.

The whole thing is a disgraceful embarrassment for what is purportedly a "professional" series and has brought it into disrepute, in my opinion.

Mike Bushell, Jack Goff and Aiden Moffat were all reprimanded by the stewards for incidents at the opening BTCC rounds at Brands Hatch yesterday. Actual penalty points and official warnings. What action has been taken against Austin?

I don't think its been a professional series for years, high level clubman racing, surely ?

There isn't anything in the BTCC rules covering drawing the ball so they can't really take any action for something which isn't mentioned. It was a daft idea to start asking the drivers to draw them, they used to ask various VIP's etc to do it but to ask someone who stands to benefit from the draw to carry it out was never going to end well. It's definitely not the first time it's happened, it's just the first time it's been admitted to.
