Hi there, my brother and I are thinking of starting banger racing driving . We have read up on most of the rules but we just can't think of any CHEAP__ , __EFFECTIVE__ and __STURDY cars that are good for beginners. Also we don't want any big 4x4's ie. Volvo 850 etc.

Many thanks,
Aaron

There are loads of different classes in bangers so first decide which class you want to race in as that will dictate what car you can use.

Whats your local track? Go down there see what others are using. Best thing to do is see what does or doesn't work.

Also check out Ovalbangerchat, loads of useful info.

Two of my friends race bangers and what they race depends on what they can get for cheap

We are only taking part in the beginner classes and we have also been thinking would an old nissan micra, a renault clio, a vauxhall corsa or an old ford fiesta (festiva) which one would be best?

As above

What track are you racing at and what are the class limits on car type and engine size?

For what you are saying I would say its micro bangers and would say a KA is better

the maximum engine size is 1600cc and my local track is oval. Is the ka effected by that or is it still probably the best???
Thanks,
Aaron

As Sausage says, http://www.ovalbangerchat.co.uk/ has lots of info.

If by "beginner" you mean what they call "rookie" bangers, then a Civic (MK6/EK shape) is the way to go. Fast and effective. I wouldn't want to go out in anything smaller like a KA, asking for trouble (And may not even be aloud).

Good luck if you do decide to do it, takes massive round spheres to go out on a track with those nutters!

Rookie Bangers would be the best place to start its cheaper and the contact is not full on unlike national bangers, having said that many do get get carried away plenty of options of cars too.
The best thing to do is to go to a race meeting and talk to a few drivers they'd be happy to help with advice etc.

Haven't done it for a while, but RWD Bimmers are handy tools. Just drive round and round in permanent oppo-lock at a 45-degree angle. Drifting, almost.
